Am I the only mother that didn't get the memo?

Is it not good enough to send a Valentine to school with my kid, I now have to send candy? My son came home yesterday with quite the haul. The teacher said they weren't even having a party but kids could bring cards if they wished.
It was the same way at preschool for my daughters. The kids were on quite the sugar high last night.
We just gave cards when I was young, and candy maybe to our good friends.

These days you will NEVER, EVER be able to keep up with the uber-parents who will always be two steps ahead of you. Don't sweat it.

This. I have learned to not care what others do. I do what I want to do and teach my DD a very important lesson to do what you want and not do something just because everyone else is doing it.

I made valentines buckets for my nephews class.
Each buckets had:
2 toy story pencils
1 heart shaped lollipop
1 hersheys chocolate candy bar
1 box of hearts
1 reeses peanut butter heart
1 pack of vanilla heart cupcakes
1 pack of chocolate heart cupcakes

and I sent in a cmall valentine heart with 4 chocolates to his two teachers and school nurse.

I think it's fine to give a piece of candy with the card, but some go overboard. At the "winter holiday" party, a mother gave each child a bag of bubbles, candy, stickers, pencils, etc. Nice of her, I guess, but geez...

There are always those parents who do that and really enjoy it. I don't begrudge them but I also don't let it make me feel guilty. I probably did for about 30 seconds when my first child was 3 or 4 and we first experienced that. Then I said "oh well, not my thing."

I have a DD 19 and since she was in school we have always put a lollipop, pencil, few pieces of candy or something with each card. The valentines are so cheap anymore they need something to actually seem like anything.

We did the fun dip valentines this year. Super easy, as you address the packet as you would a card. They were cheap too. I'd say my son's class was half candy, half cards, maybe a bit more cards than candy actually.

That's what my son chose this year. He said most of the cards seemed too babyish for him. Sad, when he's only in second grade.

DD ended up with an odd assortment. I usually expect the lollipops, pencils, etc., but this year she also got a Yo-Yo, a Slinky, Dinosaur & other Animal figures?!?! :confused3

A few years ago, a child in my daughters class gave everyone a "Webkinz" for valentine's day.

I enjoy giving out treats, nothing to do with being uber parent . I am far from uber parent LOL.

DS8 brought Valentine small package rice crispy treats , valentine gummy snack and Valentine fruit roll ups . I love a theme. I didnt send cards , the goodie bag had to and from tag on it.

I don't think twice about what other parents send or don't send. I send goodies, because it makes my little guy happy to give out treats .

You, my dear, are an overachiever. And for your nephew's class! What a very nice aunt you are!

Back when we were in school pretty much everyone taped a piece of candy or a sucker to the Valentines. We did the same when our kids were that age too.

My ds went in with just cards but came home with a ton of candy, mostly lollipops. The sad thing is I always end up throwing alot of it out because it doesn't get eaten. Thats why I don't send in that stuff.

Guess every school is different. When I was in school we had full fledged parties for Valentines Day. We had cards, cupcakes, sodas, chips, pretzels, etc.

We went alpha parent this year. Each kid got a bag with a Star Wars valentine, 2 miniatures, and a pack with 2 Star Wars silly bands. My spouse did the shopping and bought more than I would have. But our kids were very excited about the little bags.

And when they got home, the valentines that they received that they gave the most attention to were the little handmade hearts and paper dolls with glitter and stickers.

It was a nice day.

If it were up to me, dd9 would give a Valentine. The thing is, SHE gets super excited to give a little something more. This year we found conversation heart erasers which she taped to each card. she was sooo excited to give these. Other years, we've done the fundip cards or something similar.

Was this preschool maybe with a small class? I think it is very nice but my DS has 31 kids in his class and that much for each kid would have been expensive.
