Am I supposed to tip the mattress delivery guys?

I just had furniture delivered and paid $85 delivery fee through the company. I didn't tip.

Delivery people make a good income. I think there are too many tipping positions for regular work.

And I tip well for waitresses and such.

In my younger days I delivered furniture (including mattresses) and in five years I rarely got tipped, nor did I expect one. I don't tip other than offering water on a hot day.

No, I would not tip. They are getting paid a wage to do their job. Tipping has gotten waaaay out of hand in this country. I don't expect to get paid for performing my job that I am already being compensated for by my company.

Depends...

First and foremost Did the go above and beyond? Did they make the time window? Did they call you to update you if they were running late or early? Where they courteous? Did they do anything extra that was not part of the paid service Like move something else, take an old item to the curb? Where they extra careful around your house and belongings? Is your driveway too small for trucks and its 1/2 mile to the road and they had to carry (or dolly) the items in the rain/heat to get to your house?

The way I look at it while yes they do get some sort of compensation that they agreed to before they started the deliveries that day I will still give extra for doing "extra" in my eyes... But I would also tell them what they did well that earned them that tip...

A side note if they leave a feedback card and they did a good job (or bad) I always fill them out... I have worked at places where the drivers did not make much UNLESS they got a certain % of those back each month.. then they would get monthly bonuses of up to $1000...

But other then that I do view it as them completing a service that was agreed upon at a certain price point. (or if it was free delivery I understand that the delivery price is already worked into the price of the item) and I don't plan on tipping for tipping sake (other then maybe cold water or soda)

No, I do not tip them. Sorry, but no. Just had new bedroom furniture delivered for my son. I felt like the $150 delivery fee was enough!

This is such a hard one. Sometimes I think if I pay for delivery, then I don't need to tip. However, when I purchased a sofa that had to go down my narrow basement stairs, I tipped since I was appreciative that they didn't scratch my walls (it's a tight fit and I had touch up paint ready to go). They also noticed one of the legs was broken so he took care of notifying customer care for me (also taking precaution against it getting blamed on him). I always make sure I have cash in case I feel their service warrants a tip.
