Am I Overreacting?

This made me really mad, but then maybe it's just me. We're staying at BCV this week, and spent the afternoon by the pool. At about 3:30, I went into Beaches & Cream for some hamburgers and some of their yummy onion rings. The sit-down half was virtually empty, but the line for carry-out was backed up to the door. I waited for about fifteen minutes, and not one person had gotten food or left, but the waitresses on the sit-down side were standing around. I saw a guy go to the counter, get his mugs filled, and leave. So I decided to go to the counter too. I basically "informed" the hostess at the door of what I was going to do, went in and sat at the counter. One of the waitresses was standing at the end of the counter, and asked me if the hostess had seated me. I said no, but that I just wanted to order some food to go. She pointed to the line at take-out and told me I had to go over there. I said, "do you see that line, it hasn't moved in 15 minutes!". She just looked at me and shook her head. So I said, "great service you've got here", and walked out. Settled for Hurricane Hannah's, no onion rings. I felt like I had been embarrassed and kicked out of B&C, and I feel like complaining. Do you think I should? Diana

Edited to say "you know what? I would have tipped!

I probably would have had the hostess seat me at a table and ordered and THEN asked for a box. If you complained, I guess it would be about the long line. I think the people in line would have been upset with the CM's if they allowed you to order your pick up in front of them. She probably did the right thing.

OK, good point. But if you were a manager at B&C today, wouldn't you have directed the idle waitresses to help out with the line? A couple of other people gave up and left before I did. I'm pretty sure the kitchen could handle the extra orders. It just seems like a real lack of interest in customer service to me. Diana

This is just my opinion. Regardless of the fact that there was definitely a problem with the take out line, I would be very upset if I was waiting in the line to order take out and you got a seat at the counter and was able to order, basically circumventing the process. I think the situation could have been avoided had the first hostess stopped you from doing that.

But yes, the management should have done something about the wait time for take out food. But since they didn't, forming your own line clearly wasn't the answer either. Like I said, just my observation.

dancind.. I can see you must have been frustrated.. sounds like a disorganized place to me!!

Off Topic - did you see awful looking scaffolding all over the beach club?

How was hurricane hannah's anyway? is it similar to B&C?

>>^..^<<

B&C has always suffered from being too small--for carry-out as well as sit-down. When one or the other (or both) are crowded(as so often happens) service suffers a great deal.
I agree that the server probably did the "correct" thing in not letting you order carry out from the table service/counter area. But the manager on duty (and I believe here is always one on duty) should have taken some steps to speed -up the carry out line. If you offer carry-out as a service, seems to me that the restaurant should fully support it.

The scaffolding is around the entrance from the lake side. Seems like a poor choice to take those rooms out of inventory when the BC is so busy! I was told at check-in that all the rooms are full.

You know, if a couple of people in line had done what I tried to do, that line would have been gone by the time I left. I wasn't trying to "cut", just trying to get served. Other people certainly could have done it too, if they "allowed" it. When I walked out, the exact same people were standing there. I think they were not taking any more orders until the people in front got their food. Diana

You have every right to be upset with the lack of service and long lines. It doesnt sound like the manager took action by letting the waitresses just stand around and do nothing. BUT at the same time your frustration shouldn't have been directed toward the hostess. It should have been directed toward management to help correct the problem.

I definetly disagree with the fact that you tried cutting ahead of the people already in the "long" line, by circumventing it by going to the counter area.

they have B&C sectioned into 2 parts for a reason, and while I agree that the take out line is very inefficient, it always moves slowly, they need to remedy that,
but...
the sit down section usually has a lot of people having full service, they cannot allow people to sit at the counter to place take out orders,. The counter is for full service guests.

as far as the scaffolding.. well, if Disney only renovated resorts during slow times, they would have all their resorts being worked on at the same time....
maybe they had too many complaints about were and tear.... and felt they couldnt postpone the repairs any longer....gee, but I dont think any one ever complains...??!!! lol

There isn't very much room at the takeout counter area, either. It would be very difficult for more than one person to be attending the counter.

You guys win, no complaints from me. I just hope next time you're stuck in the take-out line at B&C, while looking at all the empty tables in the restaurant side, you don't start thinking "gee, wonder why someone hasn't complained about this?". By the way, I was NOT rude to the hostess! Diana

My daughter and I were at Beaches & Cream a few weeks ago and the hostess wasn't exactly "Disney Nice". We went up to the podium and told her we had two people and she said there was a booth being cleaned now and it would be two minutes. Meanwhile a woman walks up and says she has nine people (Who aren't even all there yet from the pool) and the hostess goes in, comes back out and tells my daughter and I it will be about 15 minutes because she has to sit the party of 9 that just came in (in shifts they came). Now silly me, I think two is easier to sit then 9 and we were there first. After she sat the table of nine we still were waiting outside in the hot hot July sun and there were empty tables inside so I said something to the hostess. I said well there are empty tables can't we go inside where it is air conditioned instead of waiting outside? Her answer was "You'll get better service if you wait 10 minutes to go in." Now this just sounds ridiculous to me personally. We also noticed the burgers just weren't as good as when we ate there last time. I am hoping that our next visit to B & C is a much friendlier and yummy experience!!

Diana, Hope this info may help you or another guest when you next visit WDW. We stayed at the BCV the last week in July. We usually get to the parks early and then come back to the resort for a sit down lunch.Well one day we missed the Yacht Club Gallery by about 15 minutes(they close at 2pm for lunch). We really did not want burgers so we were walking slowing back to the BC trying to think of where to go,when we noticed a few people in the bar next door to The Yachtsman Steakhouse. Thinking they might have an appetizer menu we stopped in. Well they had a very nice small menu, mostly salads and sandwiches. The food was EXCELLENT and the service even BETTER! And the place was EMPTY!! I do not believe many people know that they serve food in here! Since it was the bar staff that took our orders I am sure you could also do take out in here AND they REFILLED the mugs also!( for those of you TIRED of waiting in the Food take out line at B+C to get a drink only!)
