Am I nuts to start planning a trip for April 2005 now?

I'm new here and need advice from some seasoned pros. An opportunity has presented itself where we may have the chance to visit WDW mid-April 2005. I am looking to get into a moderate hotel and there is availability at CBR and POR (think the kids will like CBR better, but I'm worried about the size of the resort). I will be traveling with dh and 2 dds - ages 8 and 3. Am I crazy for trying to pull this trip together in <45 days? Any help and/or suggestions is most welcome!

Not at all. A few weeks ago I had an urge on a Thursday, booked my trip Friday morning, and boarded the plane Friday night!

Of course, if you've been before it does help.

You'll love POR, it's a great resort. I prefer it to CBR, both are large, but POR feels a little smaller and less spread out. I also like the trees and the river, but it's all personal preference.

The only thing which may be a little tough is dining reservations at some of the more popular places, but so long as you are flexible you will be fine.

Nope you are not nuts. But better hurry cause things are booking up fast fast and fast. Also you you time to make PS might be now. So better get moving it there are certain places you want to eat.

I am going in Nov. and have been planning for over a year. I am now looking at where we want to eat so I can email the TA my 1st choice with times and so on.

Not at all!! I usually end up planning all of my trips within 45 days because I do not know my schedule any farther in advance. The only thing you will lose out on is getting priority seatings for some character meals (CRT). You should still be able to get a great deal on airfare 45 days in advance.

How long are you looking to go for?

Nope! We planned a trip about a month before we went (in March 2003). And we decided this past Saturday that we're going May 11-16, so that's pretty quick too.

Good luck with your planning! Keep it simple is my advice.

Thanks! My nerves are starting to feel a little better! We are planning 7 days/6 nights. We have been there before - in 1999 and 2000, both times staying at the Swan. I called WDW dining and if I act quick, I can still get into some character meals - which is ok with us. I just don't want to spend all this money and feel like we didn't have enough time to plan everything out.

Not in the least - go for it - get what you can and make ps's and Ressies at places with availability

i agree that you can definitely pull your disney trip together. one thing that helped me plan our first trip was a book, The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney
World. it has globs of info and you can take it with you to disney.

Last year we decided to invite a friend of DDs along at the last minute. And I really mean last minute - we decided this 2 days before we were due to leave. I thought I would be able to call up and simply add another one to our PS's, but it doesn't work that way. I had to start from scratch and make new ones. I figured we'd be out of luck but I was able to get every single PS changed. I did have to change a few of the timeslots, but I was still able to get 'normal' dining times (between 6:30 and 7:30) for all but Fantasmic Dinner Package (which you can never get at a normal time anyway). And this was the week before Easter. So - it can be done!

Our trip last fall was planned 45 days in advance. We had a great time. It probably helped that we had been there many times before, but you could still plan a great trip if you haven't.

Did you get a hotel room yet? You must share details.

I don't know where you are from, but I must warn you if you're from New England, the flights are pretty much sold out going down on April vacation. The flights coming home are too, and the rates are out of this world. Do tell, are you from here?

I have to agree. I got plane tickets out of Logan in Boston, got them from Delta's website and I couldn't get a direct flight for April and I ordered the tix in early Jan. I paid approx $280 per ticket and I have to stop in Cincinnati going down and Atlanta coming home. The only had 1 direct flight the day I wanted to leave and it was over $800 a ticket!

I think April may be worse than May only because of different schools having spring break,etc.

Try AirTran for flights. You have to stop but the price was @$220 rt. Have a ball. We'll be there in April.

I am from New England - Massachusetts to be exact! Thanks for the scoop on the flights. Since my original post, we have relooked at everything and now are planning a trip in October 2005. We have a lot going on this spring and it would have been cutting it way too close! Thank you everyone to responded - your help is ever so much appreciated!!!!
