Ok, quick background

We were married in Disney this Sept 2009. We honeymooned in Disney for the 2 weeks following our wedding. However, family was in from all over so we didnt really get any down time. Plus the wedding itself was so hectic.

I decided, I wanted to go back in 6 months....for another vacation to relax from the wedding. My husband cannot get the time so I have recruited my mother.

We live in Rhode Island and wont fly so driving is our mode of travel. But I do not feel safe with just the 2 of us driving down alone so we have decided to tag along with my cousin and his family in their van. (splitting the gas of course)

Originally I had the last week of April booked at the Wilderness Lodge with a rediculously low room rate, unfotunatly, my cousin could not get the same week off so we had to move our dates and I was unable to find any good rates on moderate/deluxe's and refuse to stay value at 160.00 per night!

I grew up camping at FW so I know I love it but I have NEVER stayed in a tent!

Whats it like in April in a tent? Does it cool off enough at night to get a good nights sleep? Or do we need a portable A/C unit? We do not intend to spend any time during the day in the tent so its mainly for sleeping only.
What about food? Suggestions? Warnings? lol

The price is too good to pass up... I really hope we will be ok.

I am a DVC member but already used my points for a 2 week visit with everyone in Sept 2010

Im really looking for the good the bad and the ugly here so please...lay it on me!

Thanks in advance!

Jenn

Now to your questions''

I'm gonna say that the nights should be fair,,but it is Florida so ya really never know :confused3 maybe someone else should answer this for you.

What about food? Suggestions?

Okay, now this question I can help you with, I am a professional foodie.
And the answer is "Yes, I would suggest that you eat food."
It will help to keep you from being hungry while your at Disney,:thumbsup2

your welcome.

oh, you may want to wait for some more amswers.

lol...thanks!

I am just wondering what campers bring for food. As much as I would love to eat out 3 meals a day....this is a in-between trip that we are trying to do super cheap.

Hi and congrats!

Well, here are some more answers, but also more questions!

We stayed at FW April 2009 and the weather was perfect for sleeping in a tent. Warm during the day and cool enough at night to snuggle in a sleeping bag. I suppose the temps can go either way at that time of year though.

Food
Now here's where the questions come up. I take it you will not have your own vehicle while there. Is your cousin etc. staying at FW also? If not, it will be more difficult to do a grocery store run, if you need to.
We cooked very little while there. My DH made coffee in the morning, and we just took snack/breakfast food that didn't need refrigeration. (except for the beer and pop LOL) As soon as you start having to cook anything, the amount of stuff you need to take with you grows tremendously! Better figure out how much room the two of you will have in the van for the drive down. Just for making coffee, etc, we took an electric teapot, french press, cups, plates, utensils, dishpan, soap... you get the idea.
Even if you don't cook, take an outdoor extension cord and a power strip to run into your tent. Find the smallest, lightest low power lamp to use as a bedside light. So much easier than a flashlight at night in the tent. The packing list that's posted on the boards here somewhere is the best resource.

Have fun planning!

Here's an idea for food...skillet meals and a crockpot. Just need an electirc skillet and the crockpot. Skillet meals only take about 8 min to fix and crockpot meals can be cooking while you are doing something else. This is what we do when camping do we can enjoy our time and not have a lot of cooking chores to do.

Weather in April is all over the place. Sometimes very hot, sometimes perfect, sometimes cool or even rainy. Just be prepared for any of that.

Thanks guys!

We are trying to pack as light as we can. Figured we could get most things in Orlando when we get in to save on space. I love the crockpot idea...take along a mini-crock....and boxed meals that do not require refridgeration! A little water and were good! great idea!

Will def get a lot of non-perishable snacks when we get in...

The fam is staying on property as well, they may do a hotel but if money gets too tight...they will be camping with us too lol!

Thanks for the help!

Hi!We were at the Fort at the end of april 2009 and it was perfect. The temperature was good and not to hot to sleep...oh well...after a long and exiting day at the parc and a little swimming time just before bed...it was easy to fall a sleep! Can't help with the food, we had the dinning plan. Have fun at the Fort, it is the most wonderfull campground ever!!!!
