I can book a room-only reservation for POP in for $1,330 for my family. We will be getting APs so no need for park tickets.

I could rent points at a rate of 12$ per point. So I could stay at a deluxe resort for those same dates for $1,932.

This would be a great deal, I'm just making sure I'm not mistaking or miscalculating!

Assuming you find an owner, and the dates are available for points reservations, yes. Remember thatthe $12 price is not set in stone, it could be more or less, it is a private transaction between you and the owner.

Also realize that most rentals have a no refund policy, so of there is a chance you'll need to cancel or change the reservation, you may not be able to do that if you rent from an owner.

Please note that I deleted the resort and date info from your post, anything with such specific infor could be considered a rental request and needs to be posted on the rent/trade board, and follow the rules for that board.

Okay, I just added those things to know if I was calculating it right. :)

Thanks, just wanted to make sure it wasn't too good to be true.

another thing is that DVC is a "home away from home"/timeshare-type deal, so you don't get daily mousekeeping. for some people that's preferable or a non-issue...for others, it's not really "deluxe" if you have to make your own bed. just FYI...

Hey
My family just discovered renting last year. And yes you are right it is A GREAT DEAL!! We are spending 9 nights at BWV (although hoping to get a 7 month out ressie for AKL)..and for the room it was just over 1100. Not bad at all!! It's made trips down south sooo much more affordable for us. Once you find a DVC owner to rent from..it's great!

Oh yes, I know all about those things. :goodvibes

Its also (with the exception of OKW) a queen bed and a pull out sofabed in studios. The other big difference in the DVC resorts over the CRO resorts, IMHO, is that you have far less control (at most resorts) over view than you have booking CRO. (i.e. even at a moderate you know if you are going to be looking at a parking lot or water or gardens or pool - or some such categories - at DVC most resorts don't have bookable 'views' - and points to overlook the service area and points to overlook a garden are the same points - but you won't know what you get 'til you show up.)

Do keep in mind the cancellation issues and that this is a private party transaction. Also that finding an owner to work with may involve a little time on your part, and isn't necessarily a sure thing. DVC rentals generally need to be arranged farther in advance than CRO bookings. It IS a great deal. Its a great deal because it isn't as easy and flexible and sure as calling up CRO and getting a room. As long as you understand what you are getting, your chances of having a great vacation renting points and getting a great deal are pretty high.
