quitting the meds? Do I really need the antiseizure stuff? Do I really need the Lexapro? Sick of taking stuff..

Well, I know a friend of my husband who decided he had not had a seizure in many years and just stopped his medication. He ended up having a major seizure, with a trip to the hospital by ambulance, a few days in the hospital and needing to start back on the medication.

If you really feel like you would like to stop, check with your doctor. Many medications need to be weaned away VERY slowly to see if any problems occur or to prevent any problems from occurring. The doctor can also help with figuring out whether there is any other medication that could possibly be substituted for the ones you are taking. Sometimes there is a different medication that would be more acceptable to the patient or have less chance of side effects.

I think I understand what you mean. I feel that way with most of my meds, I think either I've been on them so long I feel like I've been "right" so long that maybe I don't need the med anymore, or with the med that helps prevent my fainting, it happened rarely anyway so it doesn't really feel the med is doing anything (hello run on sentence lol). I've also gone through the whole irritated-frustrated thing and wanted to just forget the whole thing. Be smart, keep taking your meds, it'll pass. :thumbsup2

I know just how you feel. I also hate that some people "label" others based on appearances and that is just not right. *****WARNING***** Please obtain your doctors permission before attempting to eliminate any medications from your life. Drug holidays are sometimes a great thing, but you may need a stepping stone to prevent rebound issues from withdrawing your medications.

As annoying as the side effects of anti-convulsants are, please consult your physician before going off them. The side effects of a sudden cessation of medication can be much worse. I would speak to your doctor and see if you are a candidate for a different medication. My neurologist switched my meds about two years ago and I feel like a different person.
