Am I DIS Anomaly?

I'm starting to think I’m completely unique to my friends here at the DIS. Here’s why…

On our first DCL cruise I didn’t know about the DIS and it was short notice (3 weeks) so we did no planning. It was on the Magic for her second ever Western Caribbean cruise and we had a great time exploring and discovering the ship, the entertainment, food, and the whole cruising experience.

Well we’ve been on four cruises now (with the 5th one coming up soon) and we still do it the same way. We don’t pre book excursions, request seating times or dining rotations, or rooms. We don’t do the resse rush, if something is open at Palo or the Spa when we stop by later in the day, we’ll book it, if not, that‘s okay.

I like reading these boards to get ideas on what we may like (and more importantly, what we may not like), and it truly is a great community that I like to be a part of. I do some planning now, but it’s all in general terms, and ‘Doing Nothing’ is always near the top of the list.

I understand the logic of detailed planning and making requests to make sure you get the most out of your vacation. And, I’m certainly not implying that my way is in anyway better. But I was just wondering: Am I the only one here who just “goes with the current” and wings the whole thing?

no i deff dont think so...the first cruise we went on we had no idea bout these boards...and evertyhing went fine. i mean my parents went to palos i got to the stack the first night...my brother and sister got signed up in there programs...we took the disney bus to the terminal from the airport....i mean evertyhing went smoothe...the 2nd time the same thing...were going again in nov over thanksgiving and were not anywhere close to "planning" for it yet. so no your not the only one that goes with the "flow"

Besides stressing about packing, we don't plan much either. The only thing we rush to do is get our time slots for Flounder's, other then that we just go with the flow. It might have to do with the fact that we live in the area. We don't have all the details to work out like flights, rental cars, where to stay the night before or what to do before we catch a flight home. If we had to factor all of that in, there would be alot more planning involved. We are lucky in the fact that we live here!

Nope. We went on our first cruise on the Wonder in Sept '03, and we knew nothing about cruising, DCL, or DisBoards. We did very little planning because we knew very little about what to expect. The only thing we planned ahead were our excursions, and that was only because our travel agent told us we could do that ahead of time. We had the single most relaxing and refreshing vacation of our lives, and I think it had a lot to do with just playing the whole thing by ear. I'd hate to spend my whole vacation worrying whether or not I was sticking to my itinerary. I could easily spend an entire day by the pool or in a lounge chair on deck 4 reading a book and not blink an eye.

I come here a lot to read and participate in discussions, and it curbs my excitement and anticipation for the next cruise. But even knowing what I know now, I won't plan any more than I did last time. My number one priority will still be rest and relaxation. I work too hard the rest of the year, and vacation time is so hard to come by that I WILL NOT ruin it by overplanning. Thanks for bringing it up. I was beginning to think that I was the only one here who was "anti-overplanning"! :D

Not alone we have done 7 cruises with 8 and 9 booked
and we Just go With the Flow.. We sit were ever they tell us and with whomever. and do not stress out about anything.. we take the whatever
approach... All is good.. We are on a Disney Cruise..

I made this mistake last time-overplanning. Too stressful. I wasted precious time worrying about details and missed the big picture-family vacation.

We didn't overplan last time either. I had been visiting the boards for awhile before we left and knew most of the tips. It was great having all of the information, but mostly we just went with the flow.

DH is the commando style vacationer in our family. He wants to get up early to do everything & see everything or he doesn't feel like he got his money's worth. I'm the "vacations are for relaxing and reading good books" type, so I like to go with the flow just like the OP. I'm the travel agent of the family, so I do all of the research and book one new thing for the family to experience. The rest of the trip is play it by ear. We often find ourselves wanting to return to the same places, ie. DCL, WDW, over and over again because we want to do "X" next time. But we always come home feeling like we got our money's worth, we always come home relaxed and I "almost" always get in my book reading time. :cloud9:
