I have been debating about a DVC for so long now that I am not even sure what I am doing now.
I just offered $120/pp on AKL for 100pts, DEC. It has 200pt coming in 2019, and 100 in 2020. I have to pay the fees for 2019 of like $744.

Am I making a bad deal? We are going to DW staying off property in November and I wanted to buy a membership before we went for the AP discount. I know the resale doesn't offer the discount and was gonna do a direct add-on to get the discount, but just second guessing it all. So much to think about. LOL

Thoughts?

You're not crazy and it's not a bad deal. The price you paid is a little high, but that reflects the fact that there are more usable points right now. You are correct in that you won't get the AP discount, and there are many, many threads on here discussing whether or not it is worth the extra money buying direct vs. the savings on a AP discount that may or may not exist in the future.

In a vacuum you got a very nice contract at a fair price. Congrats! :)

Also can anyone answer this one....I have a friend with DVC who has offered to buy the AP under her account. Does she need to be with us when we activate them?

Thanks...I am just so nervous

A DVC member can only by the discounted DVC annual passes for people in their household. When picking them up, not only will they ask to see the members blue card, but everyone getting the AP must show ID with the same address as the eligible member.

There is really no reason for your friend to purchase them as you are only eligible for full priced ones.

ok thank you for the info

The contract has 100 banked points coming in December and usually loaded contracts are a good deal. In fact, if you were to rent the points you could easily get $15 pp, lowering your buy in cost to an equivalebt $105. And if you value the points at the cost you would pay if you'd rent them from a broker you'd get nearer $100pp which in the current market is a very good deal.
Also, DVC seems to dislike loaded contracts for ROFR so you get also this advantage.

Getting a direct addon so late in the UY may be difficult. They tend to sell addons right after the UY has started because they must give you current UY points with the contract and they don't often have extra points sitting around unrented. So getting the AP for the upcoming trip may not be possible.

Good luck with ROFR, hope we can say you Welcome Home soon!

I just paid $112 for a 160 point contract, but you are buying a small point contract which tends to cost more. It's also loaded with extra points, so I think the price is OK, if maybe a tad high, but not by much.

You have a fair deal on the table, as already stated maybe a little high but that should give a better chance of them accepting the offer. Just make sure you have a plan for the 100 points that are banked into the 2019 UY because you won't be able to bank them again.

As for the AP, all you can do is take this one step at a time and be ok with not having the AP for your trip in November. Your friend can't help you out with the AP so you are completely relying on the timing of the first contract going through and then the timing of the direct add on. I personally wouldn't count on this wrapping up in enough time for your November trip. If it does you can be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck on getting your contract! Just a reminder, you would need to purchase at least 75 points direct in order to get "benefits".
