Am I crazy?

Just getting around to making flight arrangements for our October trip to WDW - unfortnately all the direct flights from my hometown are now gone (with the exception of a charter which I am hesitant to try). So we must make a connection - the flight with the most convenient arrival and departure time connects in Washington/Dulles - and I am just a little nervous about connecting in D.C. after 9/11. DH thinks I am crazy for feeling this way - that it's no less safe than connecting in Pittsburgh. I'm a VERY nervous flyer to begin with and this will be my first time flying since 9/11. Please tell me if I'm crazy or justified? I even considered driving but our kids barely made an eight hour car ride without killing each other, so we ruled that out.

With the exception of Washington National, I can't think of an American airport that has better security. Your children are much safer flying than driving.

That said, logic doesn't really help you if you are a nervous flyer, does it? I don't think you are crazy, you are scared. Just keep telling yourself over and over that there are thousands and thousands and thousands of people who fly every day. They all get to their destinations. In fact, more people die in car accidents every day, but you seldom hear of people who are afraid to drive, right?

This is really a matter of control. When you fly, you are not in control. That is what you have to accept. Good luck!

I have an (unwanted!) change in LaGuardia the Saturday before Labor Day. Worry over this (and the SMALL commuter plane we'll be taking from there) even kept me awake last night. However, it will cost me a minimum of $400 to change the flight and it's a little late to hope for space on a good alternative flight. I just keep reminding myself of those travel statistics.
