Am I crazy to tent camp in early June?

My kids and I really, really want to camp at Fort Wilderness in a tent. We will only be spending one or two nights there. Since it will be for such a short time we are not going to bother with an ac. We are scheduled to be there June 4-6. Is it going to be crazy hot there or can we manage with a couple of fans? We do have a cheap hotel room paid for as a backup. The other person in our party is staying at the hotel for that time for health reasons. Also, if we decide to cancel, will we lose our fast pass spots? We are just really not sure what we should do. First time with kids. Last time I went was 16+ years ago. A lot has changed since then.

Are you Crazy??? I don't know... It all depends. Obviously heat and humidity will very likely be an issue. Being from NE PA, I would not want to camp without an AC in Florida during June. But that's me. Now if my objective were to do "Hiking" around and not going in and out of AC areas and rides and the sort, maybe.

If you are inside the 30 day window, you will not lose your Fast Passes because you can reserve FP (with tickets) 30 days out without reservations.

peg110, can she wait to cancel FW if necessary without penalty and not worry about losing her Fast Passes (if still within the 30 day window for the FP)? I'm assuming that's also an option?

What part of the country are you from? If you live somewhere with similar heat and humidity, then you know what you are in for. If you live in the northeast, upper Midwest or anything west of Texas or Kansas, I think it will be a huge shock. June is mid to upper 90's on heat and humidity in Florida. If you've never experienced that, you will be absolutely miserable at night.

There are plenty of places to cool off during the day, but 80s at night with high humidity makes it really hard to get comfortable.

I never want to talk anyone out of the Fort, but just know what you'll be getting into.

I've seen people who rig up air conditioners to their tent. I don't think I would attempt to tent camp without on in Florida in June. Today it is already past 80 degrees and humid.

I wouldn't dare to call you crazy, however, I live in NW Florida and my A/C is running as we speak. I couldn't imagine staying in a tent down in Central FL in June w/o AC. Just my 2 cents.

We have tent camped our first two trips to the fort the first week in August. No AC, only a box fan and it was fine. The only thing you can not do is go back and rest in the afternoon. Just find a quiet place in the parks for this. Sleeping was not a problem.

My hat is truly off to you! No way could I sleep in the extreme heat and humidity with just a fan to stir it around.
And, I see you are from CT??? Of course, probably wouldn't matter where you are from - I couldn't take it even being a so. LA girl!!

Okay, as I read through the posts, please let me clarify, that my (initial) response saying "Are you Crazy???" was more at a lame attempt at being funny and in no way was intended to insult so I hope it's not taken that way and if it was, I sincerely apologize.

Peg100, don't worry. I wasn't offended by your comment. Thanks to everyone who responded. I think we might have to give up on the idea of camping this time around. We are from eastern Tennessee and it can get pretty hot here but I'm not sure if me and the kids can take "Florida Hot" in a tent. The hubby already doesn't want to drag a lot of stuff down so I know an ac is out of the question. Hopefully we can visit Fort Wilderness when it is a little cooler. Thanks again!

@Luvmythree1s, It would be very sad indeed if you canceled the trip. Or is it you are just cancelling the "Camping" part of it (and staying elsewhere?)

Just canceling the reservation for Fort Wilderness. Have to save Fort Wilderness for when it's not so hot. Still going to Disney though!

Probably a good decision. I did camp in July. Had a blast. Sleeping wasn't the problem, but not being able to go back at midday and collapse was a bit tough.

It really did cool down at night. It was quite nice. Now hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and camping in August was another story. Never again in the summer.
