am I crazy for thinking about buying this rug?

I think this rug is really pretty and am thinking about buying it for our family room. a friend pointed out the looped pile is probably a bad idea since I have young children (18 month old twins and a 3 year old). I have never bought a rug like this...only wall to wall carpet. Our new house has hardwoods, though. What do you think?

It is pretty. I guess it depends on how much traffic will be walking across it, etc.

I really like that rug! It's gorgeous. Would I do it with 3 very small children? Depends if they're going to be allowed on it with food and drinks, crayons and markers. For my kids, I'd probably get something less expensive until the little ones were at least 3. Sure do like that rug, though.

I LOVE it! But I think your friend is right. Being that you have twin toddlers and a 3 year old, it's probably going to get ruined really quick. And it's a Pottery Barn rug - so do you really want to spend almost $500 on a rug just to have it ruined by your kids? Just something to think about! :)

thanks everyone. they will have a playroom where I hope to contain most of the toys/crayons, messy stuff, and eating is only in the kitchen (although stray cheerios end up anywhere and everywhere, don't they?).

where else to look for a rug? I'm a SAHM and I don't get out much...shop mostly online.

We bought a rug for our living room at Lowe's. This is the main area downstairs and the kids have spilled milk and juice on it. I don't mind - it was in expensive enough that I can go back and buy another one in the same pattern to replace it when it gets really REALLY gross!

But the Pottery Barn rug IS very pretty! :)

I found a great area rug on this website Rugs Direct

I also found one at Home Depot that has held up well. I don't have little kids, but I do have a pooch with a sensitive tummy. It's amazing how easily it cleans up. :flower:

I like this rug website, too. I ordered a couple rugs from them and didn't have any problems. I like the rug you showed but I think with kids those ages it would get dirty fast. Something a little darker or more patterned might be a better choice.

seeing you're in Eastern Mass I bought my runner at Kents Carpet land in Norwell, gooa service and the price aren't that bad. I love the carpet you picked.....Kents has remnants that you can buy then they bind them, I did that for my runner in the hall way. I'll oerchase a remnant that way for the dining and living room. Good luck, but a carpet is hard or at least it is to me. :teeth:

It is a very nice rug. I would love to have something that pretty in my family room.

If you don't wear shoes in the house I think you could get away with it. If you do then it will get dirty real quick with that light color.

Since you are in NE I will mention Building #19.... I bought a VERY pretty area rug for my Dining room there a few years ago. It's at least an 8 x 10 and it was about $299. It is real wool and has held up VERY well. (admittedly, this room gets low traffic).......P

its pretty. I would do it in your bedroom, where the kids won't have too many messy things. I think it would look nice with a red bedspread.

I think its beautiful and you should get it. Pottery Barn rugs are very good quality and will hold up well.

Hi! I love that rug. We have bought several rugs from Pottery Barn. The quality is good and you can always get it cleaned, if needed. :flower:

With little ones I'd leave the hard wood floors for now. In our family room we were talked into Berber(sp) about 2 1/2 yrs ago instead of hard wood. "It will be so much easier on the kids." So we went with that, same rules as you mentioned, no food, no drinks, etc. Well the rules should have been, nobody is allowed on it ever!! There are so many stains on it and we have no idea where they come from. We've tried chem dry, we've tried cleaning every day, we've rent cleaners, nothing gets it out.

We're going to have that steam cleaned next week because we're putting out house on the market and we're just hoping they come out. next time though we'd do hardwood.

thanks everyone. still don't know what I'll do...but I will try to get out and shop a bit more. Lazarru, we aren't getting rid of the hardwood, but we need something on top of it...that would get awfully uncomfortable with just the wood. I want the kids to roll around and play a bit there, even though their main play area will be a different room.
