So I, as the glorified secretary, was asked to order boxed lunches for a meeting we had here from 12-1. I placed the order at 11:20 (it was for 12 lunches). The business is 3 miles from here. I could have picked it up but I figured why waste my gas. I could not go for my own lunch until the food arrived. At 12:15 I called to see where the food was. The first 5 times I called I got a busy signal, then I got voicemail 2 times, then I finally got a live person who said it would be 5 minutes. So the food finally arrives around 12:50. More than an hour and a half for rolled, cold sandwiches. I told the delivery girl that it was totally not her fault but that we should be getting a discount because that was too long to wait. And that if there was a problem - with delivery or whatever - they should have called. I also told her that now I had to figure out what to eat - that none of the lunches were for me and that I had to wait for the delivery before I could have my lunch. She offered to fix me a sandwich and bring it back. I declined because I had just eaten there Friday. I was not mean to her at all - I told her that I knew it was not her fault. And that I would call the manager later. So about 10 minutes later I see her pull up again. She had gone to Panera and bought me a sandwich and soup. I thanked her very profusely and told her she didnt have to do that. So I was already feeling guilty, then after she left I realized the sandwich was a panini and I cant eat that bread due to my TMJ (too chewy). So I gave it away. So now I feel bad that not only did she get me a sandwich, but I couldnt eat it.

While I was out doing errands the manager called me. I am getting ready to call her back. I want to stress how great her delivery person is to do this - and make sure she gets reimbursed. Even if I have to do it myself.

Am I crazy for feeling guilty? Im not even mad at the restaurant any more I feel so bad. Should I do anything other than talking to the manager?

Wow, that is quite a delivery person this business has! I wouldn't feel too guilty... you did thank her for her generous act. Just pass along the "good deed" to someone else you come across who is in need. (Good idea to let the manager know what happened as well as what a great employee they have!)

I would make sure that the manager knows that the delivery person went above and beyond. That was very sweet of her.

::yes::

But I don't think you have any reason to feel guilty. :grouphug:

I just talked to the manager - she appologized and said it was just one of those days that they were slammed. She was very nice and genuine. I said to her "do you know what your delivery person did?". She said "no, what?" (I think she was worried :) ). I then told her what she had done with bringing me lunch. I told the manager that I wanted to make sure she was reimbursed - and I would reimburse her if necessary. She said that she would take care of it. And that the delivery girl hadnt even told them about it. I told the manager that she should be recognized for going above and beyond and that they should keep her. She said they definately were going to.

She also offered to deliver lunch to several of us later in the week at no charge.

I feel better - not guilty anymore :goodvibes .

PS the manager did say that the delivery girl told her that I wasnt angry, just that I wasnt happy that it took so long. So I am glad that I didnt come across as mean.

What a jewel of a delivery person. I would also write a letter to the place of business thanking her. Hopefully a copy of it could be put in her file.
