After weeks of indecision we have now decided to cancel our ADR at Victoria and Alberts.

I absolutely love this restaurant and had booked an ADR for just Mark and me with the plan to leave Kirsty (dd13) to stay at Saratoga Springs Resort on her own and wach DVDs. She was more than happy with this and seemed upset that we have changed our minds.

The first problem was that during August V&As are only open on Fridays and Saturdays and we are on the Disney Wonder our second weekend and only arrive Friday night leaving just our first full day which means we will be really tired.

The second and main problem for me was leaving Kirsty on her own. Last year we took friends away with us who looked after Kirsty on our night out and the time before she was young enough to go to the kids club. This may seem stupid as Kirsty is nearly 14 but after all the news about Maddie McCann I just could not seem to get my head around leaving Kirsty alone. Mark kept saying I was being stupid but today he agreed we should cancel and just try to get Palos (the adult only restaurant on the cruise) as Kirsty can go to the teens club on the Wonder.

I feel a weight has been lifted off me. Does this seem really silly as Kirsty goes out on her own all the time at home. Am I being stupid? I have made my decision but just wanted to see what others thought.

You are not being silly. Set aside the fact you will be too tired to enjoy it to it's full, if you think you are going to worry while you are there then there is no point at all in going. Palo's is a wonderful restaurant - very different from V&As but you should have a lovely evening there.

You have done what feels right to you and that is what matters. It's very different leaving her alone in a foreign country from leaving her at home where there are neighbours and friends she can call on in an emergency.

I think booking the restaurant on the ship makes a good compromise....enjoy that.

No you are not being silly - you have to got with your gut instinct. I am sure you will have a fantastic meal on your cruise

You have done the right thing. You probably would not enjoy the meal worring if DD was OK.

i agree, you have done the right thing  you would not want to be worrying the whole time x x

Sue ~ Sounds as though you have done the right thing. At the end of the day it is only a restaurant.

Sue, I too have a DD who is 14, I totally understand where you are coming from.
I think you have made the right decision.

Sue, I totally agree that you have done the right thing and can understand your reluctance to leave Kirsty alone. Had we been there that night, we would have happily offered to let Kirsty 'hang out' with us.

You can still 'do' Palo, which from what I've heard is fantastic and V & A's will still be there next time you go.

I have a very soon to be 14 yr old as well so know how very difficult it is at the best of times finding that fine line between allowing them their freedom whilst trying to protect and keep them safe, if you were uncomfortable with the original plan then I think you've made the right decision:thumbsup2 (even if your DD might think you're mad ;) )

you are doing the right thing..you would not enjoy your meal if you were worrying, and there are lots of other things to do. I wouldn't leave mine.

I think my DD's will have to be about 27 before they are allowed out alone! :rotfl:

Thank you everyone for your kind replies especially Joh with your kind offer if you had arrived at WDW earlier.

I had bought a Ted Baker dress but can wear this for our ladies day at Newmarket in July, as well as at Palos and my parents Golden Wedding this summer.

It is very true that as DVC members we will have years ahead of us to go to V&As.

Also that first night we will all probably be alseep by 9.00!!!

I think you have answered your own question here hon. If you feel happier knowing where your daughter is and that she is find, I don't think any parent will consider you stupid.

Have a good time.

If you feel happier about it Sue then thats the main thing. You will be going to WDW again so there will be plenty of other times :)
