DH is the newest president of our HOA. And as such, it is up to him and the other boardmembers to make sure the community pool is ready to open by May 31 (the official opening date). It is NOT ready.

But does that stop people from climbing over the fence and using it? Heck no. :furious:

Today, DH was driving home from work and to get to our house, you have to drive past the pool. He noticed a LOT of people going in/out of the pool area, so he decided to circle the block to observe. It was then he noticed that the gate was propped open with a chair. So he parks his car, gets out and goes to confront the person in charge.

It turns out that some yayhoo decided to have their daughter's first birthday party in the pool. No matter that the 'adult' pool is nasty and needs to be cleaned. No matter that the 'kiddie' pool is worse than the adult pool. Never mind the fact that it's only in the low 70s today and threatening rain. They just HAD to have their party in the pool.

DH convinces them to leave and assures them that THIS time he will not call the cops. Although I and Mr.Nextdoor (also a member of the board)agreed that he should've called the cops on them. After all, they were breaking and entering. You can't get into the pool without a code for the gate (which has not been publically released as of yet).

Aaargh! :sad2: :furious:

Yuck! He needs to call the police as well as making sure there are obvious signs posted that the pool is closed. All I can think of is e-coli and lawsuits.

I agree with what Disykat said. Until the pool is cleaned and the chemicals are checked it is a breeding ground for bacteria! Yuck! I can't believe people are so foolish.

You need to start fining people who do this. I agree, it is a very dangerous thing to do. Make sure you put it in writing and distribute it to all who own the units, plus, post a sign near the pool door. Have the board members take turns checking the pool in the "peak" abuse times (a/k/a, weekends, warm sunny days, etc.)

(I live in a condo, too.)

Acanthamoeba keratitis Getting this is a good enough reason to stay away from an unclean pool.

That is gross!!! These people should be told they will loose their right for use of the pool if they break the rules...and pass it into the bylaws. ITA with the fine...hit them where it hurts and they will stop. Other boardmembers should call the police...your DH should not be the only one enforcing this rule. :grouphug:

Then how did they get it? I'd want to find out who was giving it out.

The gate for the pool is such that if you stand on something (or are tall enough) you can reach over and open it from the inside.

Or if you are a young teenager who doesn't care if they fall and get hurt, you can climb over the fence entirely. :sad2:

Some of the homeowners have been petitioning for YEARS to no effect to get rid of the pool entirely. Every year we have problems with people breaking in before it is 'opened' for the season, as well as major maintenance issues from people pooing/peeing in both pools, clogging up the toilets in the restroom with too much toilet paper, ill-behaved kids with no supervision AND...(my personal favorite)soccer moms driving up, unleashing a van-load of kids and then driving off to go do..whatever. They expect the one or two adults who are down there to be the police. Sadly, I don't think the pool will ever go away.

I quit going down there a couple of years ago after getting sick and bloody tired of having to police the kids who were down there. You aren't supposed to let your older teenager (say 16-17 y.o.) go down there and 'babysit' younger ones. You are also not supposed to let your 11-12-13 y.o. be down there withouot a parent. But it happens all the friggin time. We also had a phone installed that was supposed to be for emergencies only. At first, it was not set up that way..it was like a regular phone that you didn't have to pay for. And the HOA got tired of tons of long distance calls being placed on this phone, so they took it out and replaced it with one that is only supposed to call 9-1-1 (there is one button on it..that's it). But that doesn't work either..DH tested it out the other night. :(

I am so glad that DS is still too little for the pool. We're getting him a wading pool because I don't want him in that pool.
