I posted this over on the Budget Board...but, figured I would post it here as well.

We are heading to Disney in June for the 3rd time in 3 years. The difference this year is that we will be driving from Louisiana for the first time. The past 2 years I have been able to secure $39 each way Southwest tickets. Not so lucky this year....since there are not as many flights out of New Orleans since Katrina hit last year and I am paying for my MIL and SIL to come along on the trip.

Anyway....I didn't want to spend $120 for a portable DVD player with a 7 inch screen when I have a laptop that has a 14 inch screen that plays DVDs. I searched the web for something that would hold the laptop so my 6 year old would not have to put the laptop on his lap for 12 hours.

For about $30....I found this:
http://www.vuegear.com/

It's very similar to the "strapped holster" system that I've seen before for some portable DVD players. You basically open your laptop until the screen is flat even with the keybaord section. This gadget holds the laptop up between the two front seats to center the screen for passengers in the back seat.

I didn't want to recommend this item until purchasing and trying it myself. We tried it out yesterday on a one hour trip. We have a Toyota Camry and it worked great. I put my Dell Inspiron in the Cradle Vue and my DS6 played a computer game (Disney Magical Racing Game) for the entire hour trip.

So...just wanted to pass on the info. It comes with a money back guarantee....so, there is no risk to try it. I can't say that it will work with every laptop or every car. Just wanted to pass on the info that it worked great for us in our Camry and I think it will do a terrific job keeping my DS6 entertained on our upcoming Disney trip.

Check your battery, or better yet get a cigar adapter for your laptop, before your trip. Some computers burn through the batteries when you're using the DVD drive. You really don't want to get 2/3 of the way through a DVD and wind up with a dead battery.

Yes...

I have an old 300 watt inverter from my LSU tailgating days. We had the laptop connected to that inverter and we had no problems. You could also look into purchasing a car adapter for your laptop....but, I would recommend the inverter because you could plug in other items such as Gameboys or PSP's to charge while you are on the move.
