Alternative to bread pudding at Ohana?

Just curious: is there any dessert alternative to the bananas foster bread pudding at O'hana's dinner? I, personally, will love that particular offering, but I'm certain my husband will pass. Is there anything else (plain ice cream or something simple?) he could have as an alternative?

Also... DH is deathly allergic to berries. Should I call ahead of time and have this noted on our dining ADRs or just tell the server when we order?

Thanks!!

I am not a big fan of bread pudding either. However, I thought the dessert at O'hana was just great. Having said that, for sure, they must offer vanilla ice cream as that is part of the bread pudding dessert.

You can definitely get your husband plain vanilla ice cream. But don't rule out the possibility that he'll like the actual dessert! I have never liked bread pudding, but the dish at 'Ohana is outstanding. He may surprise you.

Bread pudding is not something I would ever order or make myself, but I am crazy for Ohana's version. It's ambrosia!

You can ask for plain ice cream though.

I agree about the bread pudding. I HATE the stuff normally. But, 'Ohana's version is SO GOOD that I bought the Delicious Disney recipe book JUST so I could make it at home! It's that good...

They do have alternates, though. They can get any of the desserts offered at Kona Cafe for him, if he wants. They WILL charge extra for those, though.

Or, he can have plain vanilla ice cream with the DELICIOUS bananas foster caramel sauce on the side!

I didn't think I would like the dessert either, but it was really good!

If you can get your DH to try it, just ask the server if he can get an alternate like plain ice cream if he doesn't like it. I mean, it is all you can eat.

I didn't like bread pudding until I had it at 'Ohana! We actually had seconds on it. Yes, we ate that much!

I don't care for the bread pudding but I've never tried to get anything else. By the time dessert rolls around I'm usually stuffed anyways. Sometimes I'll just eat some of the ice cream that comes on top of it.

Ooooh . . . that sauce! I'd like to *swim* in that sauce . . .. :cloud9:

I'm sure he could just get the ice cream . . . but he'd be missing out if he does!

I, personally, will be eating myself into a sugar coma on it, however, hubby is the type of person who NEVER deviates from his very short list of preferences. It's annoying, but one of the many quirks about him that I've had to learn to accept and, sigh, live with... So I highly doubt he will even taste it. I'm glad to see there are some alternatives, though, so that he won't be just sitting there while the rest of us scarf down it's caramelly deliciousness.... (Ohhh, I can't wait to try it!.... Lol!).

Does anyone have any idea what we should do about his berry allergy?? Should I call ahead and have them make a note in the ADRs or just leave it alone?

My DH is lactose intolerant and I have it noted on all of our dining reservations. We also tell the host/hostess when checking in and we tell the server. WDW is great about accomodating food allergies. Just call Disney dining an ask them to add the food allergy to your readies.

I'm can't think of anything at 'Ohana that contains berries, but I still recommend putting the allergy on every reservation. Disney does a fantastic job at accommodating every type of dietary concern, so it's best to tell them just to make sure. Then remind the host and your server at the restaurant. You should have no problem.

Send an email to WDW.Special.Diets@disney.com or call 407-824-5967saying that you have a food allergy in your party and they will email you a form to fill out with your ADR's to send back to them.

You could also call the regular dining phone number and have them make a note of it on your ADR's in the computer. When you check in at the restaurant, you should also tell the hostess about the food allergy just to have all the bases covered.

The desserts from Kona would be an option - they are the best! I love the coconut cream kiki tort and my husband loves the banana chocolate creme brulee. As someone else said, you would have to pay extra for that though. If you don't really want to pay about $6 extra, you also could go downstairs to Captain Cook's when you're done and get him a Dole whip. They're cheaper (and a snack credit if you're on the dining plan) and still yummy. ;)

Just get the ice cream separately from the bread pudding. We did that several years back because DH isn't a big fan of the pudding instead. No biggie for me because I could inhale several slices of that by myself... :lmao:

k i think you guys have talked me into trying this...cus i'm not a fan of bread pudding either. however dh is but hates bananas...altho he loves vanilla ice cream so we should be good!

I thought exactly the same thing, until I tried it. My favorite dessert of all time....and I am a dessert-aholic. Usually I won't even touch a dessert with fruit. You've got to try this one. I even requested the recipe and have made it 2x at home. Enjoy!

Would you be willing to share the recipe? It's the ONE bread pudding my husband will eat. Actually, that's an understatement.. If he had the chance he would eat the whole dessert without sharing. :lmao:
