eblack, It would help if we knew where you are driving from so we could look at more spedific routes.
edited to say that I just saw you would be coming from W.Va. It looks like it would be state routes in Fla. But if you want to avoid 95 altogether, it looks like you could take I-95 to I-85 to I-75 to St. Rt. 27.
Hope this gives you a little something to work with.
I'm from Charleston, WV!!! Lived here all my life!
We were considering driving to Atlanta then to Orlando and I *think* that way we were missing I-95.
Maybe try looking it up on mapquest.com and see what route you could take from Charlotte to Atlanta to Orlando. It may take a little longer BUT not much else you can do it I-95 is shut down.
We were just in Volusia county over Easter for a trip to the beach, then we came home and decided we're ready to take our kids to Disney too so we're looking at September.
Just come on down through Atlanta. Take 75 South until you see the I-475 bypass and take it (shaves 20 minutes off the trip), get back onto 75 South (you have no choice as 475 runs out) and then head on down to Tampa/Orlando via 75 South. Hop on the turnpike towards Orlando and voila!
Tips: Time yourself as to avoid Atlanta anytime between 6:30 - 9:00 AM or beginning 4:00pm Monday through Friday or you will be sorry.
