Already booked/paid for DDP - What if cancel/rebook?

We have a 1-night stay at SSR booked in November and already added/paid for a standard DDP. I've been keeping an eye on availability. If something opens up elsewhere (BLT, GFV, VWL or BWV) I am planning on canceling the SSR room and booking the replacing myself to try and grab it ASAP instead of waiting for MS. If I do that, what happens to the DDP? Will it be automatically cancelled/refunded and we'll need to re-add it?

Yes. It is automatically cancelled, and you have to re-add it.

Members have reported having this occur, not being notified that the DDP was cancelled, and not noticing the refund on their credit card statement- then arriving on vacation and having no plan.

So be well aware that you have to re-buy the plan if your reservation changes.

Watch out if you have already booked FP+ at the time you cancel it. You will likely lose them.

You won't be able to cancel the reservation online if it has a dining plan attached. You will have to call MS for that. You will be refunded for the DDP.

No, you won't lose your dining ADRs if you cancel a room.

Yes, you can buy a dining plan for a one night stay booked through DVC. However, you may not buy a dining plan for only one night of a multiple night stay, unless you change rooms - in other words, unless you have a one night stay followed by another stay in a different booking category or resort from the one night stay.

Hmm, interesting. One of the resorts/room types I was watching opened up on Thursday. Even if I wanted to, the system wouldn't let me make any cancellations/changes online and said I had to call MS (maybe that's the case whenever there's a DP attached?). Fortunately when I called I got right through, and they were able to change my reservation (no change to reservation number.).

However when I go to look at the reservation on the DVC site, it now says "Dining Plans currently not offered." Any guess as to if the DDP is actually still attached? I sent a message via the DVC site, but who knows when I'll hear back and I'm impatient. Thanks.
