Alone with the kids at the WLV, any advice for me?

We have had a long weekend planned at the VGF right before xmas for months, but a few weeks ago I found out I needed to be in Orlando for a mtg earlier that week. We have APs and the kids are out of school, so I checked availability and I was thrilled to find a 1BR at the WLV for the 3 nights prior to our VGF stay.

DH can't join me until the 4th night, he is working and will fly in that afternoon. So I am driving on my own with the kids (DD8, DS5 and DD2) and plan to hire an in room sitter for a few hours the second day while I head to my meeting.

Am I insane to take three small children on my own for 3 nights? Will the WLV be a good choice? I have heard it is hard to get in December so I was excited to find a room at the last minute.

I have told my 8 and 5yo that it will be super low key until DH arrives. No thrill rides since I will have our 2yo to keep up with. I thought we could hit the parks and do a few things each day, but also spend time at the resort and see what is going on for the holidays. We usually swim in the afternoons, but haven't been in December so not sure that will be an option.

If anyone has suggestions for me I gladly welcome tips! If you think it's going to be miserable soften that if you don't mind, I am inside the 30 day window so no backing out now, lol. Thanks so much for any advice you care to share! If nothing else just wish me luck, I think I will need it

I don't think you're insane at all. My one piece of advice is to take it leisurely.

Also pop over to fort wilderness, they use to have a great hayride/campfire activity that my kids loved.

The christmas decorations will be up, so you could visit your neighboring resorts to see the trees. Grand Floridian and Poly are probably beautiful.

You might consider asking for a room on the first floor near the game room (and lobby) so if you can use the game room and run back quickly to the villa if you need to

We went to WDW in December in 2011 and 2012 and used the pool on both trips.

I stayed at BLT in June for 7 nights with my three boys(8,6,&4). It went just fine. I am sure it will go the same for you. Just stick to rides that everyone can do. We also took advantage of DVC activities. Just remember to hit the bathroom before you leave! It makes it a little easier.

Definitely do it, the tree at WL is fabulous.

The WL is incredible at this time of year as the decorations are second to none. There's plenty to do outside the parks too. You can rent bikes or a surrey bike and head over to the camprgrounds to check out the decorations. You can also rent a pontoon boat and head out on the lake. The pools are heated so you can probably swim. Try Hoop De Doo over at the campgrounds as you can take one of the smaller boats that circles the lake over. The smaller boats also take you to the Contemporary so you can view the fireworks from the top of BLT and have dinner at Chef Mickey's". Have a great time.

I was on my own with my kids quite a bit during Marathon Weekend back in January while DH was resting, running, recovering, etc.... My biggest challenge was mealtime. We went strictly CS and my kids are too young to stay with a table while I make multiple trips for food, etc....

They were also too young to carry anything. .

My biggest regret is that we didn't do any sit down meals. I could've used the help. It would've been nice to have someone wait on me!

It will be great! Take advantage of the evening bonfire by the lake roasting marshmallows. They also have evening movies in the lobby of VWL for a relaxing time. If you're brave, you could take a boat to the Contemporary and then head to TOWL to watch the fireworks.

Definitely take a trip over to Fort Wilderness to see the Christmas decorations the "campers" put on their sites…I was amazed at them and my nephew, who was 4 at the time, thought it was great!

All of the resorts are beautiful this time of year, but "the Fort" was just so cool to us.

I would see about taking a sleigh ride at Fort Wilderness. We did it last year and it was great. The kids will enjoy it, and it's not so long that they'll get restless. Then get some take out food at Trails End. Sure, it's not gourmet dining, but we love the fried chicken, and there's plenty of options for the kids as well. Enjoy!
