ALOHA to Hawaii ~ April 29 - May 14, 2012 Part 5

Love all the ideas . I think I will have to get a bigger shadow box. Thanks everyone.

Jan - Love the things you made- you are so clever

As I said on FB...very creative, love what you were able to make out of shirt Jan! :)

Today we took my husband to the Carthay Restaurant in California Adventure for lunch. Food & Service was great - pricey (sp) but worth it to go once, of course now I want to go for dinner too. My daughter does not eat any meat products. The menu really does not have a good selections for non meat eaters, but we were told they can make up dishes. They do have a great kids menu.
Make sure you make reservations before you plan to go to the park. They were fully booked today. The only problem with making the reservation thru Disney dining, we were told that they do not relay any requests - like dining on the patio on to the restaurant.

Can you make reservations directly with the restaurant and not thru Disney dining?

Charlotte Gagne (Happy Goofy) asked me to post her picture.

She found this plastic plate with a life Preserver on it and hot-glue gunned Mickey, Minnie, the word Disney and the ship on the bottom. She brought red and blue sharpies to guest services and asked that it be signed. Since she did not know where Pluto, Goofy and Donald would sign she glued them on her plate when she got home. She did one for her secret Mickey on the ship without the Pluto, Goofy and Donald. (That's one LUCKY Secret Mickey!)

:cloud9: Thanks for the kind words about my sewing for Noel.

The logistics of it all were fun. (Tom said I was crabby, but I was NOT crabby, I just wanted to do a good job so Noel would be happy.)

Noel said that since John could not come with us to Hawaii he did not want to wear the shirt so she asked if I would I make her My Pal Mickey and her Minnie Traveling Mascots some shirts. :scared1: It about killed me to cut that shirt! But once I got the first cut made, I relaxed ::yes:: and got a shirt done on the ship for Mickey and a sun dress for Minnie before the Mascot Meet.

I told her the ties would have to wait until I got home and had an ironing board and sewing machine. The hardest part of the straight tie was figuring out how to lay it out :scared: so that the words did not show (as I wanted John to be comfortable wearing it) and still cutting the part that makes the knot on the diagonal so it would fit comfortably. Then too, finding a pattern was impossible :sad2: so I bought a tie from Salvation Army and used it as a pattern which give me ironing lines too!

The bow tie was a cinch except for the hooking parts which I finally bought from a local tailor. I found that there was only one place in the whole design where two flowers with Hidden Mickeys ::MickeyMo would lie straight on each side of the bow.

The purse was a surprise that I had fun figuring out so that it would look like a shirt on one side with the collar and special label showing and have the border design with all the words on the other side.

:yay: I'm glad you like them Noel, and that you took a picture because I forgot. :cheer2:

(I have been wearing my shirt and crocheted bracelet all day today! HAPPY HAWAII DAY :cool1: to get me through sitting at the computer and doing reports :headache: for work.)

Yes, but since the Restaurant is new - they are booked up in advance. I would think after the newness (sp) wears off - it will not be as busy. They have a nice bar area & seating area near the bar where you can order appetizers.
You can make your reservation thru Disney dining & when you go to check in and make your wishes known they do the best that they can to make you happy.:flower3:

We got our Hawaii pins and card framed. I'll post a picture when we get one.

We went to a showing of BRAVE last night. I really wanted to love this movie, I only liked it. We had VIP seats, in the center of the theater. Even with these seats, I found the center of the screen clear but the rest out of focus. So it wasn't a beautiful movie, even scenes that should have been. The story line was weak and not something small kids will get. But it isn't interesting enough for adults. The two female characters look like pretty dolls, with very large eyes (look like Precious Moments figures), but all the Scots men, old and young were unattractive buffoons. The mystical aspects were weak. The witch was mostly silly and looks like Mrs. Hasegawa from Lilo & Stitch. The 'spirts' were never really explained, at the end it seems they might be the soul/spirt of deceased, but they never were developed into characters. Even the evil dark character, which had a role throughout the movie was never really developed, nor seemed to play as an important role as the bare butts of the buffoons did, again, weak story development. The music was very pleasant but there are no memorable songs. I guess I didn't even like the movie as much as I thought.

Just sharing some of the items Jan Easterly made for me from the DCL Hawaii shirt!!

WOW! Just Amazing work, Jan! You almost inspire me to cut up one of hours - but I SWORE I'd never sew that darn fabric again! Lucky girl, Noel!

John and I also saw the movie last night and enjoyed it as a fun romp with a strong message for young girls. I agree that the males were not painted in a good light but this was Pixar's first attempt at producing a more serious subject.

In our theater there many young and older girls who applauded and laughed throughout the movie perhaps remembering issues with their own mothers.
For us, we recommend at least seeing the movie and judging it for yourself.

Just my two cents...now off my soapbox!!

I really don't like movies very much, so I seize upon the excuse to not go!;)

we might just wear our Hawaiian shirts we were are able to go on the NY cruise with our daughters and grandchildren. I am sure we will get a lot of questions about them and also Goofy's outfit. thanks Val and Jan

Same here. I went to very few movies as a child and so never really developed a love for going to the movie theater. Will wait for DVD to come out.

Well I saw Brave at the Midnight showing and I loved it. It was Pixar at its best. Wonderful movie. Surpassed all my expectations.

I posted the following on the facebook site a few days ago, but now am wondering if anyone in DIS board group else is still having issues also.

"Well my daughter Catherine wins the award for the crud a lot of us caught the last few days of and after cruise. She just spent two days in hospital because she still has it 5 weeks later and cough is so strong, again, that she has a pulmonary embolism and a cracked rib from the coughing. Sigh..."

I still cough a little at night and my asthma is a little more sensitive than usual, but nothing that is really bothering me.

Our local movie critic on one of the TV stations here in Seattle gave it a good review. He went to it with his 5 and 7 year old sons and said they laughed and giggled thru most of it and he just really enjoyed it. A great family movie for any age..gave it an "A"..

Which NY cruise are you going on? We're on the Sept 7th to Canada. It's only a 5 nighter, but it's only an hour away from my house to the port. It will be so easy to get there.
