Hi - Live in Hawaii and I came across the opportunity to purchase a 100 pt Aulani contract for a pretty reasonable offer through a friend (comparing available inventory on DVC resale and other sites). We will soon be welcoming our third, but so far our little family love Disney. My other two have been to both DisneyWorld & Disneyland and we have another DL trip planned before the next one comes. Always have stayed offsite but been intrigued by DVC because of how many times we've already been to Disney and our kids love Aulani the few times we rented points and stayed there.

My thoughts are that we will continue to do DL or DW every 1 to 2 years and primarily be looking at rooms that can fit 5. Looking at points thats roughly a few days at the various resorts (we will most likely travel during spring/summer/fall breaks). I figure I can get cute with the borrowing/banking for more extended stays. Worst case scenario we can use our points and just staycation at Aulani. Is 100 points enough to get value at DL & DW. Or is it so little that it wouldn't be worth the hassle when looking at actual logistics?

I wouldn’t count on using those resale Aulani points in California. The Grand Californian is small & always tough to get at 7 months. WDW has more resorts & you’ll likely have better luck booking a resort there at 7 months.
The not yet open Disneyland Tower may have the same resale restriction that Riviera @ WDW has - and if it does you won’t be able to use any resale points you purchase now to book stays there.

Best way to know, is to look at the point charts for the resorts you think you would enjoy. Not all of the resorts have sleeping space for 5, and depending on when you travel, not all are easily available at 7 months. The less expensive villas at each resort are generally not available at 7 months.

Studios that sleep 5 can be found at BWV, SSR, Poly, VGF, & Riviera. All studios can sleep 4 plus an infant (under age 3), so you would fit in all of them until your third turns 3.

This is an old post, but it is still generally accurate as far as 7 month availability goes:

Good luck with your research & decision.

ETA: Riviera can only be booked with points directly purchased from Disney, so if you buy Aulani resale, those points could not be used for Riviera.

I agree with this. We bought points for VGC because it’s very hard to book a stay there unless it’s your home resort.

Also keep in mind that even though you are purchasing from a friend, Disney still has ROFR.
