Day 4, Tuesday, September 30
We had another early morning with breakfast in the room, then hopped in the car for the drive to MGM. Our first scheduled stop was Tower of Terror. I had hoped to try it, but hadnt thought any of the kids would want to ride. DS1 decided to give it a try. He was a bit apprehensive when we entered the hotel. The dust and cobwebs reminded him of the Haunted Mansion. After the TV sequence in the library, he was ready to leave NOW! While we waited to get to the next cast member and exit, the people behind me started talking with us. The teenage girl explained how she had been scared the first time she rode. They convinced him to give it a try. He was more scared of the haunted effects than of the drops. Afterwards, he said he was glad that he gave it a try, but he didnt want to ride it again. Our next stop was Star Tours, with everyone except Granddad and DS2 riding. Once again, our robot pilot got a little lost on the way to Endor and gave us a wild flight. This was the first time DD rode Star Tours and it joined Splash Mountain and Test Track as new favorites. I guided the group over to Playhouse Disney. I knew DD and DS2 would love the Playhouse show. I also knew that DS1 would hate it, so he and I headed back to Star Tours. After another missed trip to Endor, we looked for ice cream on the way back to Animation Courtyard. Alas, all the ice cream stands were still closed, so we settled for popcorn. I had planned to see the Voyage of the Little Mermaid next, but DH wanted to see the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and DD desperately wanted to ride Star Tour again. There was just enough time for DH, DS1, and DD to ride Star Tours before joining the rest of us at Indiana Jones. We took advantage of the ice cream stand across from the entrance before heading to our seats. This was the first time weve seen this show and we really enjoyed it. Then we made our mistake for the day we headed to the Great Movie Ride. The wait was our longest of the day and DD was melting down by the time we exited the ride. We headed back to the Polynesian for lunch and a well deserved nap.
After our naps, we walked to the TTC and caught the monorail to Epcot. Our first stop was the Wonders of Life pavilion. DH, DS1, DD, and I rode Body Wars. DD didnt really enjoy it. Next we went to see Cranium Command. We always enjoy this attraction. DS1 didnt seem to think it was very funny though. He realizes that he is getting close to puberty and might someday start liking those dreaded girls! Our next event was one of the most anticipated nights of our Disney vacation parents night out! My parents took the kids for fish and chips in the UK, the boat rides in Mexico and Norway, a walk around the World Showcase, and finally a viewing of Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. DH and I, meanwhile, snuck off for dinner. We enjoyed browsing through the Moroccan pavilion, then had dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh. We both had the Royal Feast and shared a Moroccan sunset drink. For most of the food, everything I liked, he didnt, and vice versa. The appetizer plate had Jasmina Salad (I liked it), Seafood Bastilla (I loved it!), and Chicken Bastilla (he liked it). The main dinner was Roast Lamb Meshoui (his favorite), Lemon Chicken (I liked it), and Couscous (I liked) with Seven Vegetable (he liked). We both ate our share of the Crepes Atlas though! The musician added to the atmosphere and the belly dancer was fun to watch. I bought the Moroccan cookbook as a souvenir. Next we wandered through the shops in France and the UK. We stopped in Canada to buy an Off Kilter CD and bought an Epcot coin set and Canadian tour book as well. By now it was about 8 pm. We decided to stay for Illuminations, which we had never seen. I offered to help pass the time at the shops in Showcase Plaza, but DH decided he would rather just sit and talk. Probably a much cheaper decision as well! We found a spot near the railing across from Refreshment Port. We had a good view of the lagoon and a break in the trees overhead for the fireworks. Illuminations was great! We finally made it back to Polynesian at 10 pm. My parents had put the kids to bed, but DS1 and DD were still awake. On previous nights they had taken turns sleeping on the daybed, but that night they shared a bed with a pillow between them. I think they missed us.
