Almost C$5000 for a family of 4 to fly from Toronto to Orlando in Xmas

For those of you considering driving, check out car rental rates. Well you were going to pay something for air fare anyway, right? We've rented for the last 5 years to drive down to Orlando and never regretted it. We get a vehicle with all the room we need (not my cramped vehicle) and better on gas mileage. Most importantly, I don't have to spend a day and a half in a Florida hotel while my van is being serviced due to some unforeseen problem. Yeah, that happened.

For those of you lamenting the cost of flights, I hear you. I booked this year's flight 11 months in advance (last Apr for this March) and that was the lowest I ever saw prices, even when there were seat sales. I would suggest, if you have any points, booking one (or two?) flights on points and buying the rest. The airline can link your reservations, which is important if there is a change in equipment or flight times.

I have confirmed my DVC bookings at 7 months. So I finally booked the flights...

It was close to $4500-5000 for a family of 4 to go from Toronto to Orlando. I checked daily since I posted this message, and it did not go down at all until today.

Today, the price has dropped a little to $1000 taxes included per person. I applied for 2 RBC Westjet Mastercard, using 2 companion tickets, the second one is $99+120 taxes = $220

So a grand total of $2400 for 4 people... which comes to C$600 per person, direct non-stop flights.

That's a good price! Have used the WJ CC as well. No blackouts, free bags. I also have used the WJ dollars to help lower costs.

i am hoping to fly out on dec 13 and back dec 23. it was about $2300 for a family of 5. i have enough points on my avion card that i can get 5 free flights (which means $143 pp in fees).

i really don't want that earliest flight that has us at the airport at 4am. and i don't want one late in the day... i wanna be in the park by mid day. there is a 8ish am flight i should probably book to make sure i get the ones i want!

i should book it - then if my furnace breaks (see signature) or anything else stupid, oh well, we are committed to the trip!!!
