For those of you considering driving, check out car rental rates. Well you were going to pay something for air fare anyway, right? We've rented for the last 5 years to drive down to Orlando and never regretted it. We get a vehicle with all the room we need (not my cramped vehicle) and better on gas mileage. Most importantly, I don't have to spend a day and a half in a Florida hotel while my van is being serviced due to some unforeseen problem. Yeah, that happened.
For those of you lamenting the cost of flights, I hear you. I booked this year's flight 11 months in advance (last Apr for this March) and that was the lowest I ever saw prices, even when there were seat sales. I would suggest, if you have any points, booking one (or two?) flights on points and buying the rest. The airline can link your reservations, which is important if there is a change in equipment or flight times.
