Hi all -
DH and I are planning a "spur of the moment" trip to WDW the first week of August (before school starts for my 9 yo). First question, my twin girls will be turning 3 the week after we leave WDW. They are both quite tall for their age and are mistaken constantly for being older. Should I expect to encounter problems at the gates? Second question, do you think there will be plenty for the girls to do at this age? I really wanted to wait until they were older to bring them their first time but the incentive of them getting in free is to hard to pass up. Also, DH is not much for the rides. He usually waits while my son and I ride the rides (the thrillers). Any tips for him to help keep the girls occupied while they wait on us? Finally, what are the crowds like during early August?

I was a "regular" on these boards back when DH, DS and I used to go to WDW every year. Since the girls came along, we haven't been to WDW and I haven't had time to check in around here. My, how these boards have changed ... always for the better!

QueenVic, are you still around here? :chat:

I wopuld go to the DMV and get state id's for your kids with photos and birthdates. That way you dont need to keep track of birthcerts if you are asked for proof of age. You also have something handy if you get seperated.

Our younger son has done alot of waiting for kid switches. He's usually plenty occupied with stores, naps, snacks or people watching.

My twins were 4 when we first went to WDW, and they rode almost everything. They were willing to try anything plus at Disney the height requirements were quite minimal, so they rode Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, anything they were tall enough to get on! It depends on the fear level of the individual child. The only thing that scared my girls were the automatic toilets, lol.

Hi...sounds like you are going to have fun! I would definitely get an ID for the girls or just take their birth certificates. Anytime I fly with my boys, I always take their BC because one time I had a Delta counter person asked to see them when my youngest was about 5 maybe. I think mine was more due to the fact that I am a single mom than their size or anything. I was glad I had it on me though. It never hurts to be prepared for those situations when they arise.

I would take tiny jars of bubbles (like the kind you get at a wedding) and have the girls play with them when they are waiting. Bubbles are always a hit with everyone! Also, just simply walking around (while waiting) and seeing all there is too see. I have spotted many things when my kids were younger that I might have otherwised missed had I not been stopping to smell the roses so to speak...lol

By the way....3 is a great age to take first time kids to Disney...they will totally enjoy it...and seriously remember it...both of my boys did!!! I think younger than 3 and all is forgotten. Believe it or not...my youngest refused the stroller when we went right before he turned five. Yes, there is a god (sorry, not a lover of strollers here AT all...lol)

have a super trip!

We went with our twins last year when they were 3 and made a big mistake. We took them on Snow White. They refused to ride any dark rides the rest of the trip. They screamed through Small World.

Melluvsmickey-

I'm from the Houston area too- The Woodlands.

My DD is 3, DS is 4, and they ride almost everything. August crowds are still heavy and it's VERY HOT! Just get to the parks early and plan on going back to your resort to rest in the middle of the day.

I doubt you will have a problem at the gates with the ages of your girls. My DD has very long hair and is also often mistaken for an older child and we were never asked for proof of age. Especially if children are in a stroller when they pass through the gates the cm's don't even seem to question a child's age. I've been reading these boards for years and I don't think I have ever read anybody being questioned about their child's age when gaining admittance to any of the parks.

You will find plenty to do with your three year old girls. Our DD has been going since 14 months and has always enjoyed many rides and shows with each trip. WDW is the perfect place to take little ones b/c there is SO much for them to do. Since your DH is not much of a thrill rider why don't you split up at times and he can take the twins on a slower paced ride, to a show, a movie, watch a parade, go to one of the park playgrounds or jumping water fountain areas, stroll through a shop, meet and greet some characters.... There are really endless things for him to do while you and DS ride some of the thrillers. Cell phones or walkie-talkies will help you meet back up and everyone has gotten to do activities they were interested in.

Also just in case you didn't know, your twins are free for any of the buffets and character meals in the World.

I think you're planning well taking them right before they turn three - they're free and will have so much fun!!!!!
