Hi Everyone :)

My family is going to Disney World next week (7/17 thru 7/24). My daughter turns 3 on 7/31. I have a couple of questions. Part of the reason that we picked the week that we picked was so that we wouldn't have to buy her a pass. She is very tall though (almost 40 inches) and looks much older (like mid 3). Should I bring a copy of her birth certificate? She is about a 1/4 inch short of 40 inches (a lot of the rides height requirement), do you think that she will still be able to ride? What about the ones that say at least 3 but have a 36 inch requirement?

Thanks so much!

Karen

It wouldn't hurt to bring a copy of her birth certificate. As for the 3yo ride, like Goofy's Barnstormer, my DD went on it when she was 27months, but was tall enough. They didn't question it.

I understand your nervousness. I had the same issue when we went a few weeks before my son turned three and he was big for his age. I brought his b/c, but no one ever asked for it. He was always riding in the back of the stroller and I swear the CMs never looked twice at him other than some who would chat with him a bit--ask him if he was coming to see Mickey, etc. Still, I felt better having it.

One person at a character meal asked him how old he was when he was just two and a half and he told them he was 6 (his sister's age) then when we said, "No, tell her how old you are." He said he was 11! Pretty funny. Then DD told the waitress he was 2 and a half and conversation moved on.

We are taking our dd 3 days before her 3rd b-day and staying for 8 days. I would have taken her the week before but that is before labor day as opposed to after labor day. I wanted "no lines" so we are planning on her getting in free all week. I was told by numerous people and even confirmed this w/ a CM when making a ressie that any kid right before 3 or turning 3 the week of the trip enters the park free all week as long as you buy your passes BEFORE they turn 3. I only have one character meal after she turns 3 and will pay for it - if they charge me.

So anyway - I am bringing a copy of the birth certificate because like your dd - mine is 1/4 short of 40 inches (w/ shoes) and looks and talks like she is 4!!! You will have no problem going on any rides she is tall enough for (even that say over 3) but I have heard that most 40 inch rides - they are strict on. Is she 1/4 in less w/ or without shoes on? That might make a difference. Honestly though most over 40 inches rides are pretty harsh for a 3 yr old anyway. I may try Splash Mountain if she is tall enough by Sept but I have no desire to try Tower of Terror or Space Mountain etc.. - I think that might be too much. We will be baby swapping though so DH and I can try a few over 40 inch rides!!!

Make sure you have a CM measure her in the beginning of the day (when kids are at the tallest) to see if she can do any over 40 inch rides. That way you won't have to wait in any lines.

HTH and have fun!!!!

actually, unless this has changed, they measure the kids at each ride. And on some at the beginning and the end of the line! My DD was waiting for when she would be tall enough for Primeval Whirl through two trips. Then she was finally 48" and so excited. They measured her before we got in line and all was well. Then we waited in line which they claimed was 10 min and was way closer to half an hour and then the CM called her over to the side and measured her again. It took her a long time and I was standing there thinking that if they decided NOW after waiting for half an hour that she was too short we would have to be having some words. :D She did make it, but phew was I worried.

I didn't word that right. I meant to say - have the CM measure you at the beginning of the ride instead of waiting and try to go right away in the am when you are at your tallest.

It would be great if they came up with a system where a child could be measured at the beginnning of the day--like at Town Hall or something and get some type of stamp or wristbanc or something so that they didn't have to measure at each ride. Maybe I should email Disney with that idea......

I actually mentioned this in another thread as I think it is a really good idea :teeth: but I was told Disneyland did try it and kids were trying to remove and switch bands. I would think those ones you can only get off if you cut them would work but it doesn't seem to be in the future!

I was ready to bring my DD's birth certificate on our trip last year but after calling CRO they told me not to bother. They said they beleive what you tell them. Since my kids are small, I dont worry about people thinking I lie about their ages (if they thought I was lying they would probably think I was making them older then they are). If you are worried about it, bring a copy along to be safe. They did ask me her age at check in at ASMo, but it was not questioned.
