My husband and I recently became Foster parents, we've been going to Disney since our honeymoon (we've gone twice now, plus I went for a weekend in May with my girlfriends). We've decided that we would like to take our foster kids to Disney World in February 2008, the kids are a 1 year old girl (she'll be 21 months at the time of travel) and a 5 year old boy. I know that our little guy will be able to go on lots of rides but I'm wondering what the 21 month old will be able to do. She loves the various mascots she sees at the mall and stuff (except Santa Clause) so I'm not worried about the characters scaring her, I'm just wondering what rides/activities she'll enjoy. We really want to to with them this value season because we're not sure if they'll be with us past the summer, and want to give them the opportunity to have this experience.

Any advice?

There's plenty for little ones to do!! In MK, there's It's a Small World, and Dumbo, and Cindy's carrousel, and the Pooh ride. There's the Donald play area, she might enjoy Buzz Lightyear (maybe?), there's the Country Bear Jamboree, Mickey's House, you can ride the train, all sorts of stuff!! And that's just MK!!

We took kids and grandkids when the youngest was 20 months. If there wasn't a height restriction, she rode it. She loved the characters, would go running for hugs from all of them. She danced in the water fountains, watched the shows and parades.

Agree with others above: the little one can go on any ride without a height restriction. This is almost all the rides in Fantasyland. We also saw all the shows and even though some of them were loud, our babies sometimes slept through them. Don't worry, there is a ton of stuff the little one can do. We made sure to take a comfortable stroller from home so our babies could nap and rest right in the stroller -- one that has a nice recline and big canopy. It worked well for us.

At 17 months, my dd went on pirates, jungle cruise, alladdin, pretty much all of fantasy land. As others said, there is plenty to do. She can do most of it. Just not the roller coasters.

My DD went for the first time at 5 months, and did practically everything w/out a height restriction. (But I will say she is The Child With No Fear.)

Almost 2 will be a great time to go. She'll have such a ball just looking at everything (and of course pointing it all out to you)! Definitely plan on spending a decent amount of time at MK, and take the kids to at least one character meal. Bring a dry set of clothes & let them play in the fountains. Have a stroller with a recline so the little one can snooze. You guys will have such a wonderful time!

We went when my older one was 21 months and he loved it! The only character that scared him was King Louie, and that's only because he came right up to the stroller and danced in front of it. Oh, and he wasn't a fan of the dancing broomsticks in the parade. Other than that, he has completely enjoyed it every time we've gone. I feel that MK and AK are much more enjoyable for the little ones though...we went to Epcot when he was about that age, and it was a lot harder because it was a little above his level. Good luck and have fun!

Disney is great for rides and attractions that are appropriate for varying ages and you'll find a lot to do at each of the parks. Disney Studios will really depend on whether the shows will hold the little one's attention for up to a 1/2 hour at a time.

Here's a link to an article on visiting Epcot with little ones: http://www.buildabettermousetrip.com/article-epcot-with-young-children.html

We took our now 3yr old DS and he had a blast. We knew he couldnt ride certain things, so mom would take him on a nearby ride or in a store and dad would ride. And then we would swap. We also waited until he was asleep in his stroller to do the big rides. I wouldnt worry about a thing, all of you will have a great time.

The earliest I brought my children was when my youngest had just turned 2 I wondered if she was too young at the time but once we did it we were so happy and thankful we didn't wait any longer. She took lots of naps in her stroller in the park. My husband and I would babyswap, and bring her big sister twice to rides that my youngest was too small for. My youngest liked the parades best, she liked them so much we watched them every afternoon. She sat in the stroller kicking her feet in excitement as the floats passed by pointing at all of the characters. She also loved the character meals because the characters came right up to her. She loved all of the rides in the MK that she could do and she could do most of them.

One thing I didn't see mentioned already is the Journey into Imagination with Figment attraction near Soarin in EPCOT. She wanted to do this over and over and this worked out so well as both my husband and I took her sister onto Soarin while she visited Figment again and again and we played in the What if Labs. She loved the What if labs! Being able to please everyone, to me, is one of the nicest things about Disney. While some may think her sister was the lucky one because she got to go on Soarin or other height requirement attractions like it, my youngest always was able to feel like she was the lucky one as there was always something else special for her right around the corner. This is a big part of the Disney Magic! Enjoy your little ones and kuddos to you for being such special parents when you didn't even have to!!!!!!
