Greetings from NYC!

My wife and I are headed to ASMusic in early January and would love to hear about some of your experiences, tips etc with this uncharted territory for us. We are both jazzed up about seeing the mouse and his magic especially with all the rats around here.
Just not the same.

Thanks in advance for your time.
Have a great weekend all.

I stayed at the ASMusic a few years ago, and it was a nice enough hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable (although they were a bit small. I know a lot of people complain about the noise level and the large groups of people, but those weren't an issue for us. We stayed in the Jazz Inn, and our room faced a courtyard near a parking lot. If noise will bother you, you may want to try to stay in a room that isn't on the main walkway (that runs beside the pool), as the pedestrian traffic will be high.

I thought the food court was quite good. They had a good selection, and we never found it to be overly crowded when we went there. If you are a coffee or soda drinker, be sure to purchase a refillable mug. They cost about $10, and you can fill it throughout your stay. It pays for itself if you use it just five times.

We stayed at the ASMu in 2000 and really enjoyed it. It's a great place to stay, especially for your first time...you have nothing to compare it to. Yes, other resorts offer more (services, bigger rooms, etc) but if you want basic accommodation right on Disney, you can't beat it (we're not in our room much anyway). The food court was great, bus service was excellent and we didn't find the resort crowded at all (we stayed in the Calypso bldg, parking lot side & it was very quiet). The pool was OK (nothing fancy & no slide) but we have one at home so the pool wasn't an important feature for us...we were there to spend time with the mouse. :) I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Have a wonderful vacation. :)

We were at ASMu in January of this year. It was not crowded at all and we did not have any problems with noise. We were in the Jazz building and thought it looked very cool at night with the Jazz player decoration backlit.

It did take a while to check-in but there is the food court and Disney shop close by if only one of you wants to do the waiting. It was too cool while we were there to swim but the pools looked nice.

We were very happy with ASMu and would not hesitate to stay there again.

I was at the ASMu in December '02. I was very pleasantly surprised by the resort. The rooms were nice and the bus service was great!!

There are only 2 things that I found although I would not classify them as problems.

While I did not have a problem with noise levels (we were in the Country building which is at the very back of the resort), the plumbing is loud. You can hear when other families are using the bathroom.

Also, while the rooms were very nice, I would not put a family of four in there. The rooms are definitely smaller than the moderates and I don't think that for my family staying in only one of those rooms for a week would work, although 2 rooms would be fine.

We had the same problem at the GF. :)

We stayed there in Dec. '02 also. We were three adults in Jazz. We were really very pleased with our stay, even though it was only one night. We'll be back in Dec. '03 for three nights!

The room was small but adequate for the three of us and two weeks worth of luggage. The bus service was excellent, and we enjoyed the food court. We didn't get to try the pools because the weather was terrible, but they looked just fine to us!

Here are a few pictures from our stay.

We have stayed at ASMo and ASMu. (ASMu in Calypso three nights last October; Rock Inn eight nights in January)
Our experiences have been very good at the AS.
The CM's and bus service, from our experiences, were better than the two mods we stayed in. And CSR was pretty good.
So far for us the AS CM's have gone above and beyond what was expected.
We would not hesitate to stay at an AS again.
The ONLY downside for us is DH misses a good bakery area, like what CSR and POR has. (And no in room coffee maker -- which serves up bad coffee anyway.)
If you are guests who spend a lot of time at a resort, then a value may not be your best choice. We spend a lot of time in the parks.

My Sister and I just returned from ASMu on Wednesday. We stayed at the Jazz area room 2401. Outside noise was was my largest pre-trip concern. We had absolutely no noise problems, except for the bathroom problem, which is common everywhere even on DCL. The room was quiet and comfortable for the two of us and we had no problems checking in, at the food court, or with transportation to the parks. We were only in the room between 11pm and 7:30am most of our four night stay. We didn't get to use the pool either.

I am a self-admitted PO-FQ devotee and I thought that I would miss it terribly, but I didn't. I actually like the transportation better at the AS's because the busses have their own little space to pull into for each destination and they are all clearly marked with signs. I did shed a small tear when we went by the wrought iron, unmarked gates of PO-FQ though. When hubby and I return next year, it will probably be to ASMu or Pop Century. since PO-FQ won't be ready yet.

Daisimae ;-)

We (2 adults, 1 child) stayed at the ASMu Labor Day week 2002. It was pleasant and clean. The rooms had a small table and 2 chairs. We were in the Jazz bldg. facing the small playground. We did not find it noisy at all. Mousekeeping would move my daughters stuffed animals around (facing the door waiting, sitting on the bed reading) which kept us amused everytime we returned from the park.

The large pool was a little crowded so we went to the piano pool, which was enjoyable and there were adequate lounge chairs available. Bus service was good. The gift shop is small but had some neat souveniers if you look carefully (brushed chrome character key chain with initials-5.95, looks real handsome in a gift box.) We went for a quickie trip and would stay there again if we couldn't stay at a deluxe.

As far as the food court- as someone who grew up in NYC I will tell you, you may be a little disappointed if you're looking for flavor- but everything we had was fresh and tasted fairly good (I travel with a little shaker that's sold for salt and pepper but I have garlic powder in it). ;)

That aside, since this is your first time, I'm sure it will be truly magical. Enjoy!!

The pools are heated. They feel great while you're in them, but when you get out - WOW! its cold. It didn't seem to bother the kids though. :D

The rooms are small, but with just the two of you, you'll be just fine. You'll get a kick out of the theming of the buildings. :D

I've logged 5 stays total at AS, two at Music :Calypso and Broadway. The rooms are bright, neat and very clean. Country Fair is a good walk from the food court. the food court is basic, but good. Crowds at the food court are not bad until abotu teh last hour. early mornings are VERy quiet.
The gift shop is very handy and has many good gifts for those of us on a budget.
My only "negative" comment is the pools. The large one can be quite crowded, but my biggest complaint is that neither pool has a deep end. Good if you have kids though!

DW and I stayed there the 1st week of June this year. We were on the 2nd floor of Calypso overlooking the main pool and right next to Melody Hall [front desk, gift shop, food court, and arcade]. Based on what I had read on this board I expected to have noise problems. Except for a couple of times that some kids ran along the balcony outside our room, once at about 10PM and once just before we were leving our room in the AM, we had no problems.

In September of last year we stayed in the Jazz building in a King room on the top floor. We heard no toilets, screaming kids, or any other annoying noises. It was just fine with us. Our room faced a small playground area at the resort. You will be just fine there. I was planning on staying there again, but since they are opening up the Pop during our December stay, we decided to give it a try. Mickey

Hello: We just stayed at ASM a few weeks ago. While it is very basic, it still carried with it that Disney charm. We stayed in the Country Fair building, which, if you want peace and quiet then that's the place you want. Country Fair, however, is the farthest away from the food court, bar and store. The piano pool and a laundry facility is a close walk. Be sure to buy the resort mug for free refills during your entire stay - it will be less expensive. In the mornings (while getting ready), one of us would either walk or drive to the food court and grab a snack and fill the mugs up. Honestly, we stopped at the drive thru at the McDonalds right next to ASM and ate a cheap b-fast on the way to a park. We saved our money for the nicer restaurants. I could go on and on, being that we were just there, but I don't want to hog this forum. If you are interested then IM me (bratcatcali - Yahoo, or stuckinhellnv - MSN Messenger). Both my husband and I worked at Disney so we have lots of advice if you are interested. Hope this helps though!

I have stayed at the ASMU many times since it has open. I have never had a bad stay there and have even been there during cheerleading season. I prefer the Jazz building closer to the piano pool. I have always faxed my room requst in about 3 days prior. I pretty much have gotten what I requested. My thing is that I am there for the parks not the room. I will be there from 11/2 - 11/15 on a come back rate. I am also trying Pop Century from 3/11-3/19 2004. I am skeptical though because this is the 3rd time I have book into here and the 2 other times had to be moved because it did not open. So we will see.

I agree! We stayed at the AS resort because we spent 23 out of 24 hours around property at the parks and what not. If anyone is looking for a true "resort" stay then perhaps the ASRs are not what you are looking for. I will add one cute thing: each night we returned to our room to find a little linen origami animal. They used the wash cloths and towels to make things like a monkey and a swan. It was so cute! If you have kids, they make even more detailed little ones that look like stuffed animals (I noticed this in the windows of the rooms that had kids). Like I said, you still get part of the Disney magic even at the budget resorts. I did not notice any construction or anything regarding Pop Century (though that doesn't mean it's not happening). Good luck with your reservations there in the future!

I stayed at ASMU back in 97 and I thought it was a great place to stay. We spent alot of time at the parks so we didn't mind that it lacked the amenities of the more pricier resorts. I have also stayed at the moderate resorts and thought that ASMU was just as good. I hope to take a vacation to WDW in a few years once my boys are a little older and I think that we will probably look into staying at one of the AS resorts (possibly sports). It was a great to be able to stay on the property at a great value. I am sure we will be looking to cut our costs when we take the boys and this will be a great way to do it.
