Allstar first night rack rate, POR next 6 nights, with Jan discount codes?!

How do I go about changing my reservation with CRO? I have 7 nights booked with the AP rate for Jan 1-8 at POR, but i wanted to change to the regular discount, when they come out on day after thanksgiving. However, those rates are only going to be good from the 2nd on...so, i wanted to stay at the all star the first night with the rack rate and then stay at POR for the next 6 nights with the discount code. How do I go about cancelling my existing and making the new one? Will it be difficult? providing there is availability of course. Will they tell me if it is available before they cancel my old reservation? thanks

You definitely don't want to cancel your current reservation until you find out if there's availability at the discount rate. Sometimes rooms aren't available for certain dates.

There's several ways you can do it:
1. Tell the CM the story, just like you told it here, stressing that you need to be sure there's availability at AS for the first night and at POR for the next 6 with the discount before your current ressie is cancelled.

2. Ask about the new discount rate at POR first, and if it's available at a price you like, tell them you have a current reservation, but want to switch it to the new discount (and ask them if they can apply that deposit to the new reservation). Be sure they also check availability at AS. That will require a separate deposit.

Be prepared with some alternate resorts for them to check, if there isn't availability at POR. This generally works out fine, but I get compulsive and check back in a couple days to be sure the deposit was transferred appropriately. I honestly can't recall if we got a new reservation # or not.
