Friday June 27th. Another day, another plan crumbles into dust! Today WAS going to be Blizzard Beach, however the sun is blazing and none of us fancy being crispy and burnt by lunch, so we scrap that idea. After much discussion, we decide to do some shopping this morning and head to MGM this afternoon when (hopefully) the heat will have abated a little.
First stop is the quaint (but ever so slightly spooky ) town of Celebration. This place is one of mums faves and we drive around to look at all the houses. Everything is laid out like a film set, each house perfect in its own way. American flags adorn verandahs, and rocking chairs sit on porches. The lawns are all immaculate and perfect white ranch fencing borders the town. There never seems to be any body LIVING here, which adds to the "film set" aura of the place. We stop at the little shopping area bordering the lake and at last spot people (or are they just anamatronics!!). Mum visits her favourite store which sells dolls and teddy bears. We nervously wait to see how large the bags are she will emerge with! Amazingly, she arrives back with only ONE bag this year and we decide to leave whilst the going is good.
We head towards I-Drive and decide on TGIs for lunch. DS is asleep and they let us bring the stroller to the table. We have the Jack Daniels chicken strips again to start as they were so yummy. All in all another tasty meal at a reasonable price.
Its now 1pm and still incredibly hot. No one is keen to get to MGM yet so its decided that we hit the Florida Mall for an hour or two. Good move, as the SALES are on! I buy some T shirts at Old Navy (3 for $10!) and DD picks out some stuff in the Playmobil store. We then find the Disney Store has a 75% off clearance sale......send DH off to find a fork lift truck to take the bags back to the car. Some fab bargains here today. DD chooses a Stitch plush reduced to $8, Princess Pajama case, Princess swimwear, T-shirts and nightwear. Assorted other trinkets including Mickey T for me and a Buzz sweater for DS. We can hardly move when we emerge from here. DH is sent back to the car with all the merchandise. The Gap also has a sale, where DH picks out some shirts and I get DS some cool jeans and PJs.
By 3pm, even I am shopped out and we head back home to drop off all the shopping. Mum decided she DOESNT want to go to MGM now after all. I explain that our 10 day hoppers will have been a waste of money if we dont start USING them soon!! DS has crashed out and DD is also whingeing that SHE doesnt want to do a park now either....aaaaaaarrrghh! Eventually, mum agrees to stay with the kidlets whilst DH and I knock out some of the big rides at MGM tonight. We also think we should try and see Fantasmic as we arent sure its going to be suitable for DD, after the Honey I shrunk The Audience fiasco!
We get to MGM by 5pm and its pretty quiet. Excellent...just as we had hoped! Straight to Rock and Rollercoaster....10 min wait. On we go and we both LOVE it! The acceleration at the start is a real blast, though in the ride photo, DH looks asleep! After that, we head out and both look up at the Tower Of Terror...both of us have never ridden before (I have an excuse as I have been pregnant on my last two trips, DH has NO excuse!). The wait is 10 mins so its now or never. We stand and look up and hear the screams and, its no good. We cant do it. What utter wimps we are. After riding Mission Space yesterday there should be NO ride that scares us, but we both tremble at the thought of being dropped and scarper over to Star Tours instead. Bit of a wait here at 20 mins, but it passes quickly. I used to love this ride, but after Mission Space it seems ridiculously tame and dated now. I hear its due for a refit, so hopefully that will improve things a little. Next stop the Great Movie Ride, something else we have never done and enjoyed a lot tonight. I loved the Wizard Of Oz set and DH enjoyed the Alien set.
When we step out of the GMR, the sky is getting overcast and a few spots of rain appear. We dash over to Muppets 3D where we get seated instantly as the show is about to start. We both LOVE this show and it doesnt disappoint as usual.
The rest of the shows have finished for the day (apart from Fantasmic) so we wander around the park for awhile, when suddenly, the heavens open! We dont have ponchos with us so we take cover in the Villains store. A CM thinks Fantasmic may be cancelled so we have to decide whether to stay or go. There are people leaving in droves, so we decide to stay, rather than fight to get on a tram back to the car. As the rain eases a fraction we head over to the arena, utterly soaked when we get there! The rain is now worse and I am certain they will cancel the show tonight.
We manage to take cover under the hot dog stand. The smell is too tempting and we order a couple and spend as long as we can eating them so we can stay undercover! Amazingly, just before 9pm, the rain eases and the show starts after all. We are then moved on by security, but decide not to sit in the arena as its so wet. We stand at the back, which also gives us a quick exit out before the masses depart.
The show was how I thought it would be.......great, but way to intense for my three year old, who isnt keen on Dragons! I loved the water floats with the Princesses on and the wonderful special effects in the show. DH was a little disappointed there werent that many fireworks (big kid) but overall we thoroughly enjoyed it. We leave a minute before the end to beat the mass exodus and enjoy a quick trip back to the car. The hot dog hadnt filled us up and we picked up some fries at the WDW McDonalds (which is tons more expensive than those OFF property!).
Back home, we discuss what to do about the Fantasmic Dinner Package we have booked. I know DD wont like the "dark" aspects of Fantasmic at all but WOULD love all the sparkly water floats and Mickey. We decide to sleep on it as we have till Sunday to decide.
