Allergy season killing us!!! Help!!

My DD who's 8 has multiple allergies princess: , she take's Loratadine and Nasonex every morning and her inhalers every morning and night!, and she's a star taking them, we do this from March until Sept!.

Hang in there Tenia66...hopefully it is almost over. I have seasonal allergies right now too, when trees are leafing out, so April and May are miserable.
I have a little luck w/otc clariton or generic clariton, however I am starting to think it is a placebo.

Here are a few things that work for me: I drink a ton of club soda, which the strong carbonation seems to help. Also, I like to nurse a box of Nerds candy for an itchy throat. If the eyes itch, DONT touch, it will only get worse and the allergy eye drops sting, so then I have stinging and itchy eyes. I think showering at night works. I also stay in more, don't mind a little rain and DONT go out if you see white wispy things (pollen?) floating through the air like snow! I hope you get more helpful answers!!

The white wispy stuff is called Cottonwood, from cottonwood trees. We have a gazillion of them in West TN, and it kills me and DD2.:headache: DD2 takes Zyrtec in the morning, and I take Benadryl at night. I have tried everything (prescription) under the sun for myself and nothing helps.

Last year my family and I went to MGM Studios and were watching a car show and my eyes started to water really bad like I was crying. This only lasted under 10 minutes and then stopped. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? If so what medication works?

I must admit that I do take a prescription, but it is just generic Claratin, which you can buy over the counter. If you allergies are really bad at night take Benadryl. It can make you very sleepy, so don't take it during the day.

A tip I learned recently was to take showers before you go to bed. That way you do not bring any allergins into the bed with you. Also, have everyone take their shoes off before they come in to your house. Less nasty stuff brought in that way.

If you have to do any outdoor chores, get one of those face mask filters. I know they are stylish;) but it is better than suffering needlessly.

Good luck!
we do currently take showers before going to bed, and leave our shoes at the back doors. good to know this helps though..thank you..........

Allergies have been really bad for the past two months here for me - I take Zyrtec every day. I just discovered something called "NasalCrom" - got it at Target - it was next to the Afrin, and Simply Saline type sprays. It supposedly blocks the cells that make your nose itch and run. It's non-addictive. I liked it so much - I bought another bottle so I could have one at home and one in my car. You can use it up to 4x a day (1 squirt in each nostril). It made a big difference! I was waking up at 4-5 am with a totally stuffed nose or with my nose just running like a faucet (yuck - TMI I know - but if you have allergies you know what I mean!) - that spray has really helped! :)

Good luck!
I'm going to buy some right away...thanks

My son did this in the dixie stampede in branson, mo. we assumed it was the horses, he almost completely closed up. i poured benedryl down him and avoided an ambulance and er trip but he was zonked for 14 hours...........

We've been using a Neti pot to rinse out our sinuses, and canals. It has cut our use of Claritin, Zyrtec, and the sprays to a minimum. It took a bit to adjust to, but I swear by them now.
What is this? I get recurring sinus infections so I have to stay on Rhinocort year-round and Singulair as needed which is pretty much all year except winter.

Wow! I just Googled this out of curiosity. Sure looks bizzare but I bet it helps. Do you buy their salt? If yes, is it any better than buying non-iodized salt from the grocery store?

I use sea salt, because that is what we generally have in the house. It looks funky, and my family has hooted watching one another, but it works. We mix about 1/2 teaspoon with a cup of warm water. The person who told us about it said that if you use cold water, you tend to feel like you are drowning.

Bought ours at the local health food store for $17.

Getting the head in the right position takes a bit of luck the first time, and we've all had it go down our throats. But after we got it right, we swear by it. I've got 4 allergy boys (including dh!) and it has helped my migraines, also. The only one taking meds currently is my husband when he golfs or mows. Then he still comes in and washes the pollen out.

FYI, Sam's Club is the cheapest place I've found loratadine. 2 bottles of 150 pills each is around $15. Most places charge almost $1/pill, and the Sam's ones come out to about $.05/pill, so HUGE savings. My kids both have to take it daily, and the oldest takes Advair as well. I don't worry as much about them hurting their liver/kidneys by taking a daily allergy med as I worry about risking a hospitalization or death from a severe asthma attack.
