Be prepared to add $15-30 each way for "perks". You get a carry on, but that's literally a purse or backpack, if you want to carry on a real carry on piece of luggage to put in the overhead bin it will cost you. You also have to pay extra to reserve any seat before the day of travel, if you have little kids this can be an issue, I don't know what it's like when you get there that day with little kids (I've always just paid it) but I would hope that they wouldn't leave a kid unattended but they do make you pay an extra 10 bucks per seat to reserve them together before hand.

They can still be a decent option, it's just rarely as good as it looks to begin with. I've heard that Allegiant is usually the airline that provides other airlines with the "some airlines charge you these hidden fees" that they use in all their ads.

I took Allegiant twice to FL from Plattsburgh, NY (I live in Montreal) and they were okay but the planes are old (no movie but a little more leg room) and both times we had delays flying back home. The first time was leaving Clearwater/St.Pete and the flight was delayed for 4h and we never learned the reason. They gave us some soda or water for free. In Fort Lauderdale the plane was delayed for about 3h because it had failed the inspection and they were waiting for a new plane from Miami.

I have to say that the employees both at the airports and in the planes were nice and helpful. On my way home the first time I also learned that that will check a suitcase for free if you check one. Not guaranteed but most counter employee will do it.

Friend to trip from midwest to Florida recently on Allegiant. Said it was a horrible experience. First they started boarding half the plane and the unloaded those people saying mechanical issue (understandable). So they wait forever with no updates and are finally loaded on plane. Sit on plane over an hour and then unloaded (this time they had loaded all the passengers). They sit in terminal while they get another plane which arrives but they still sit in total about another 1.5 hours. They finally all get on and take off and make it home almost 4 hours late. Sure mechanical issues happens but Allegiant leaves from some smaller airports, there were no other flights for several days if they couldn't get out. Also surprise surprise there WERE NOT FOOD OR DRINKS AVAILABLE ON THE FLIGHT FOR PURCHASE.
She said worse flying experience EVER!
