I got an email this morning stating that Allegiant Air is coming to the AVP airport. Starting June 21st you can fly one way nonstop to Sanford for 83.99, taxes and fees included. We are going to Disney the end of December and I have been looking at flights. They are really high. I hope this deals is still going for our trip. I know Sanford is a longer drive, but the price will sure be worth it.

We had it at the Hagerstown, MD airport and it went away and now it's returning. Generally they had just a couple of flights out a week and a couple back. While the price was low, they do charge for everything. They charge for checked bags, carryon bags, pre-boarding fee, and seat fee. Once we added on the extras there was no savings for us. Some folks forget that DME does not service Sanford, so remember to incorporate the transportation fees in getting to and from Sandford. For us it didn't matter because we always have a rental. However, the perk of the smaller airports is that some airports (at least Hagerstown) the parking is free. Since it cost us more flying Allegiant, we stuck with Jetblue out of Dulles. We don't pay to park since we always get a ride to and from the airport. I've heard good reports about them, but I couldn't get past the extras. Maybe one day I will. I did see if you pay for your luggage online it was cheaper than paying at the counter.

We will be renting a car and staying at Windsor Hills so will not be using Disney transportation. It probably won't work for us because it looks like the flights are on Tuesday and Thursdays. We will be arriving on a Saturday. I thought maybe someone that didn't have their plans set it might help. The cheapest flight I can find for our times is over 400.00. I'm crossing my fingers hoping they will come down closer to our trip.

Yes, I'm watching Allentown and Phila. They are all over 400.00. Maybe once we get closer their prices will come down. I would be thrilled with 179.60 out of Allentown. That is where we flew from last time.

They already fly out of Elmira. I thought they added flights on more days of the week in December. For some reason the calendar on their website is cut off on my screen; I can't see the months.

Posted last week when I saw the local news with information and booked for our return trip Oct, the flights out of AVP are Sunday and THursdays starting late June to teest the market.

We booked Allegiant coming back early Oct, few tickets for my family were $47 and airport fees $67, 2 others at $84.00 w/fee.
BUT, there were no flights in SEPTEMBER.
Which means we have to fly out of Allentown the week before. Well, not a huge deal, adds a day to the trip.

The only flight in Sept is Sept 2nd. No one has any idea why nothing on the website for Sept. Before I book, I am calling the airport and see if they know why no flights in Sept.
I do not want to book Allentown, either Allegian, Airtran or Frontier and find out I could have gotten out or AVP on Alliegant.

This is a super budget airline.....tons of add on fee's even if you get the $47, $67 or $84, rate. There is a Pre seating fee $11 to $17, buy section of the plane...

Killer is the baggage fees; a back pack goes free under the seat, if you can fit a small 22" in the overhead that is $16.00 Checked baggage is $40. (per the ressie agent, Ann Marie that helped book because no AVP fligjht out, so waive booking fee)

So we save more going down on Airtran/Frontier out of Allentown to MCO with luggage, and ME. But how do I get a rental we go off site a little to visit, and have to get to Sanford to fly back?
MEARS is $180 one way.

I can get a decent full size from Sanford in the round trip flight/ out of ABE-MCO and MCO-AVP, last week a minivan was $297, full size $212. But, would not fit all the luggage.

I searched Hotwire and Orbitz, as we still have months, and they do not find rentals at Sanford/orlando????

We're going to test Allegiant out of AVP on 11/29. With all the fees, including 2 checked bags and 2 carry ons, fare came to about $272 per person round trip. I'm not going to get the rental through them because, if you read the fine print:

Taxes, surcharges and fees are not part of your package price and will be collected by Alamo at time of auto rental pick up. Fees are the same for all rental car companies and are based on car size and season. Fees may include: Concession Recoupment Fee, Surcharge/Tire Battery Fee, License Recoupment Fee, state tax, and drop fee.

This is going to increase the price close to if not the same as if you booked directly through the rental company. Instead, I think I'm going to try a name your price bid on Priceline. Since we're going to spend some time at Universal, we were looking at renting a car anyway and that seems to be the best option at this point. I'd love to hear other suggestions though.
