Allegiant Air is now flying from grand Rapids, MI to Orlando. Any west Michigan Disney trekkers out there have any experience with Allegiant from GRR to Orlando? Any advice, tips? Is is necessary to pay the "seat selection" fee to keep your party together, or does that happen anyway. Any advice or comments on the service is appreciated. I know they fly into Sanford Airport and not Orlando International. That's not an issue--we rent a car each trip.

Just a quick thought - I think I read on here that they only fly through the end of September.

Allegiant also flies out of Toledo, but I've never seriously considered flying them, for two reasons. First, they only have a few flights *each week*. Two, they do not have interline agreements, so they won't "write your ticket" over to another airline if they can't get you there.

Chances are, nothing will go wrong. But, if something does, it could be days until Allegiant can get you where you are going, and your only other option is a last-minute, full-fare ticket on another airline.

I just passed up an unbelievable rate from Greensboro,NC to SFB for some of the reasons described above. Allegiant only has one flight out; it is late in the day; they have a track record for delays. After reading many reviews I decided I could not take the gamble and entrust Allegiant with my family's vacation. The option is a bit different for me than for some since the alternative is a 10 hour drive, not a thousand-plus mile journey.

Just be aware a few times they have left the next day or later from Grand Rapids. If the price is right and you are good with the risk then jump on it! (We are trying Direct Air from Kzoo this trip.)

We considered it as well but decided to just fly NWA out of Detroit - $140 rt ttl per person. Last time I checked it didn't even look like Allegiant was flying GRR in October! :confused3 So much for that idea :)

They are now. I have been checking flights for November, and they have flights to/from Sanford then.

I have only seen one flight delay from Grand Rapids. It was shown on the local news. Where are these reports of multiple delays coming from? If they have a habit of leaving on a different day then planned, I may have to rethink my trip strategy for November.

We flew Allegiant a couple of times when they flew out of Lansing. They've since moved over to Grand Rapids and no longer fly out of Lansing. Make sure you figure in the additional costs of the rental car (I know you said you always rent a car, but sometimes the cost of a Sanford rental is more than an MCO rental), seat selection, etc. when you compare the prices with a legacy. The previous posters are also correct when they say the delays can happen. If your route is only serviced a couple days a week, you may find yourself stuck somewhere with no real options. Getting on a later flight can mean later by a couple of days. That never happened to us, but I did figure that into the equation.
