Allegiant Air baggage ?

I just read there is an additional charge for checked bags on Allegiant flights. How much is it per bag?
From FAQ on the website:

"Checked Baggage: Passengers wishing to check luggage will be charged a per person, per bag, per segment Baggage Transport Fee. All Baggage Transport Fees are non-refundable. Each bag must weight 50lbs or less. The outside measurements of each bag must not exceed eighty (80) inches. Each additional bag will be charged a fee of $50.00 per bag. Total number of bags allowed is not to exceed 4 per passenger."

I pre-paid $44 for 6 checked bags. That's about $7/bag. According to my T&C printout, you are allowed up to 2 bags per person (L+W+H not to exceed 80"), plus one carry-on 9h, 16w, 19l, plus one additional personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop.

If you do not prepay when you order your ticket, expect to pay a big difference when you try to check additional bags at the counter.

I booked the Allegiant flights in Mar for our trip in Oct. I purchased them at Allegiant's ticket counter at the local airport to avoid the extra fee they charge for booking online or via telephone. I was charged $4/bag roundtrip and elected to pay for two checked bags per person.

That may be overkill on the number of bags, but like the pp said, the ticket agent said it would cost much more per bag if I show up at check-in with more bags than I paid for.

I just bought Allegiant Air tickets at their ticket counter last week and specifically asked since I was unsure if I would need to check bags or not whether there would be an increased fee for checking bags on arrival. I was told the charge still be $6.
