I have never heard of the tradition either. I think around here people eat black-eyed peas, or something like that. I do like pork chops, but I could never eat kraut.
We always seem to have Ham on New Years but I thought it was just like having a turkey on Christmas. The only traditions that I've heard of was black eyed peas and collard greens for health and wealth.

old southern sayings, we willeat our one meal of cabbage tomorrow, our only black eyed peas, and salt pork, which i actually liketo cook with., altho depending on the southern state you arein, it may be collards or anyother greens for the wealth part.
