has got me thinking I am the only person who has never heard of this tradition. Will chinese spareribs work to bring on luck? ;)

I have never heard of the tradition either. I think around here people eat black-eyed peas, or something like that. I do like pork chops, but I could never eat kraut.

:confused3 We always seem to have Ham on New Years but I thought it was just like having a turkey on Christmas. :confused3 The only traditions that I've heard of was black eyed peas and collard greens for health and wealth.

lol black eyed peas for health, pork for luck, and cabbage for wealth

old southern sayings, we willeat our one meal of cabbage tomorrow, our only black eyed peas, and salt pork, which i actually liketo cook with., altho depending on the southern state you arein, it may be collards or anyother greens for the wealth part.

I didn't know about this tradition either. Plus I don't like pork, so it can't become a good luck tradition for us!

I think the pork tradition is a PA Dutch tradition, isn't it? At least that's how I grew up. :confused3

So since I live in NJ I am safe from bad luck should we choose not to eat poke?

I have never heard of this either.....where I am from it is traditional to eat Tamales NYE.

My mother always made collards and black eyed peas on New Year's Day. Still waiting for the wealth. :lmao:
