I am going solo to WDW for 15 days/14 nights in September. I have an annual for the first 9 days of my vacation and can get a discount on the hotel. I would like someone to convince me to stay at the All Stars. And, which section (Music/Sports/Movies) that they like the best...and why??.
It is considerably cheaper. Because I'm going alone and will be spending more time at the resort, esp. the last 6 days, I've developed a mental/emotional block about staying there. I'm thinking ot POFQ for the 14 nights. With the AP rate, it would be $546 (over $600 w/tax) more than the All Stars. Should I splurge for the solo trip?

I've been to WDW 5X (4X CBR and 1X POFQ) and will be there July, 2002 with family at POR. :Pinkbounc

Hi,
I grew up going to WDW once a year with my family (always staying in a Disney resort). I have stayed almost everywhere (Except FW which we are doing May15th) and can honestly say that I love the All Stars. I have nothing but good things to say about it. The rooms are a little small, but they are well kept and clean, and since its a solo trip it will be more than enough room for you. Its bright and cheery, and the food court is great. There are 2 pools, one being more of a family pool, the other more quiet. We have a lot of friends that have stayed there also, and I have heard nothing but positive things. Everyone seems to say the same thing, you just can't beat the price for a safe, clean room that you hardly spend any time in anyway. I've stayed at all 3 All Star resorts, and I don't have a preference, other than the theme they are all exactly the same- the movies seems to be the most popular when I've gone to book my trip. There is also a new All Star that is opening that might be fun to try. The only drawback to these resorts is when the buses come to pick you up at the theme parks, the All Star line is the last one (a little more of a hike) But for a savings of, what did you say? $500.00 its worth the walk! Have fun wherever you stay :)

If I were going alone (that's very hard to imagine with my large family but I do dream of it) I would think some beautiful walks would be in order. I can't think of more beautiful grounds than PO (R--not as sure about the grounds of FQ). Obviously, you could pocket the money saved by staying at an AS and bus to any of the resorts and have some lovely walks. I also could imagine that during a fourteen day stay I would want to rent bikes or boats-- both of which are available at PO. I'm so jealous! Have a ball whatever you decide.

I have stayed at ASMu and ASMo --- both are great.

I really like the All Star food courts better than anywhere else and the theming is fun.

One suggestion for choice of which All Star is to possibly avoid Movies.... usually sold out anyway. Since you are going solo, All Star Music seemed to have fewer kids and to be quieter in general. I think they usually put folks who AP rate their room way in the back, so it's a bit of a hike to the buses, but very quiet.

I haven't braved a solo trip yet - something on the agenda though. Have FUN!

I hate the all stars. We will only stay there if we absolutely can't afford one of the moderates.

Once you stay at a moderate, you'll never feel that you are getting the same service. I fear what I will think of the moderates when I can finally afford a deluxe! :)

Oh and by the way, the bus service to All Stars was terrible when we were there in March.

I have stayed at the All Stars 10+ times in my 30+ trips to WDW.
The remander of the times I have stayed at different WDW locations and would say I have loved them all. They all offer their own things to each and every one of us. This past March I stayed at the ALL Stars Music for 10 days and did it solo. Friends of mine were at the YBC and we found that we did quite nicely getting to and from each others rooms by the WDW transportation system. Except for standing 2x on the bus it was fine and that wasnt so bad either. I do agree the rooms are a little smaller but as a single traveler big enough for me. Also when you will be there it will be less croweded so you should see some quite time at the pool while all the others are at the parks. IMHO save the money and go again ..the TVS and beds are the same to me everywhere within WDW. As far as walking around I did walk this time from my room to McDonalds it was nice and quite early in the day......also you can always walk at the other resorts I have done this also and at many there are places to sit and rest and read a good book.
have a great time and save yourself some money.

All star Sports is the best of the three and is keeps to its theme better than any others.

please don't be afraid of the all stars. I've only stayed in the movies, but was pleasantly surprised. We went from a one-bedroom villa at the wilderness lodge, jacuzzi, living room, vcr, etc., and finished the trip at all star movies. I was really afraid that after spending five nites at wilderness lodge and then two nights at the all stars that we would be really disappointed. not so!! The theming really makes up for the smaller room. I'm going back in five days and spending two nights all stars and then switching over to the poly. I would stay at all stars before staying at the contemporary again. As for the bus service, yes , they pick up at all three all star resorts, but when staying at Grand Floridian, they also pick up at poly and wilderness lodge, so same difference to me. I say go for it.

Let me start off saying the All Stars were fine! We stayed there a few years ago and really enjoyed it! The room was about the size of a Comfort Inn and tastefully decorated. We stayed at All Star Sports. It was a fun theme, closest to the pool, buses and food court. So if you are concerned about staying there don't be.
On the other hand we have also stayed in PO Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Mansions. They are wonderful! You have access to the boats that take you to Pleasure Island and it is a nice ride. Both areas are very nice but if I were alone I would go for the Mansions. The pools at the FQ and AS are full of kids because of their themes and the ones for the Mansions and on Old Man Island are a little quiter! Not sure if that is a concern of your or not. The food court at the All Stars is great and very reasonable. If you are looking for sit down type food PO has a buffet type food area and a sit down, both are delicious! We didn't have any trouble with bus service from either location but there are about 2x's the amount of buses for PO because it is a much larger resort. I will say that when we were there last year bus service in general was worse. The drivers didn't tell jokes or give advice and they seemed to not come as often. Hope this helps!:)

I've stayed solo at both POR and ASMusic and I agree with Belle5. POR was so peaceful. I expected to like ASMusic, but found myself very disappointed and missing POR. I have no problem with POFQ either-it's just that DH loves FQ and I know whenever we go together, we'll stay there, so I choose a different resort for my solo trips.

clhcpaca,
Please let us know what you decide and why. I'm always sad when I answer a question like yours and never know the outcome!
