Does anyone know of any competitions or ball tournaments going on next week? We are staying as ASMu next week. Had thought about adding a day, but there is no availability. All three of the All-Stars are sold out. Wondering if we're headed into a firestorm of cheerleaders, bands, and ball players!

Thanks!

The Florida State Special Olympics Games are taking place at WWOS May 20-21. The delegation registration is set up for the All Star Sports Resort on Thursday. I am not sure how this is set up in Florida or where they put the athletes. I could see many of the families staying at the All Stars though.

In Ohio, where I am an assistant coach, our state games take place on the campus of OSU. Our teams are housed in the dorms and almost all of the events take place on campus. Many of the families will chose to stay at hotels just outside of the campus if they live to far away to make the trip.

My son competes in the Florida State Special Olympic Games and the athletes are always housed in All Star Sports. It is the largest of all the games for the year. Athletes usually arrive Friday and leave early Sunday morning. I know I'm biased but it's a total blast for our family!

The next weekend is the sun and surf baseball classic and the big memorial day soccer tournament. My son is playing in the baseball tournament we are heading down the 22nd as a lot of other families are.

Now I am jealous since I am waiting to find out what dorm we are assigned at Ohio State this year. The last couple of years the team has been in non air conditioned dorms so we should be due one with air conditioning.

Yeah, our State Games here are not on Disney scale either. We even stopped going a few years back as it was way too much work for us.

That said, I also tried to get a room on site 19th-22th for reasonable amount (already booked at Disney Springs) and was shocked to see NOTHING. We have gone down this same weekend many times, never on site, and found the parks are very doable.

Actually, the state games overall are done pretty well here in Ohio. It just would be nice to have maid service and not have to pack towels. A few years ago we got a newly remodeled dorm that turned out amazing. I have hopes for a different dorm than the last two years.

It is a lot of work and this year will be even more so for our team. We are taking our largest group to state, 21 athletes and 7 coaches. I might get lucky and have about 2-4 hours sleep each night.

Our summer games are held at a college. The dorms are old school. The campus is nice and most events are in tight area. Food was always very cafeteria to point our teams would order pizza etc. Our full team was easily about 50+ athletes and around 8 coaches who stay over and a couple more who come back and forth. DS2 was a coach of DS1 team. Each year there is always at least one "good" night. I think shower time was his "favorite"..........

Our fall move around and we did for a couple years where a small town college hosted but everyone scrambled for motel rooms ..... we stopped going after a couple years. One year of winter was enough, he played basketball and most the teams there were capable of playing league ball. Our team was humiliated.

The great thing about the summer games is that so many athletes looks forward to them all year. They love it!!! My DS tolerated going and it just became so stressful for all of us to the point DS2 still stayed in dorms with athletes as they needed all the responsible coaches, especially guys they could get ....... and DS1 we drove him home each night.

You all ENJOY!! particularly all the great smiles :)
