It looks like the thyroid cancer is in check still, and the doctor is now considering what else may be causing the nodules in the lung. Short answer, if there were thyroid cancer cells remaining that were able to be activated, then one of his blood tests would have shown numbers in the hundreds or thousands, and his gamma scan would have shown bright spots in some areas.
The blood test showed only 1.4 (essentially nothing) and the gamma scan showed no bright spots (except where they would be expected after ingestion of the dye.
Therefore, because his neck is full of "ugly" lymph nodes, and because some of the basic blood work shows that his body seems to be fighting some form of infection, we are running a few more blood tests, his pathology slides from 2008 are being pulled for re-evaluation and he is likely off to see an infectious disease specialist

.
Certainly good news for the most part, and we are now just down to troubleshooting what may be some chronic infection. Maybe he went swimming in the lakes in FL?
Thank you all for the kind words, prayers and thoughts. It is great to be over this hurdle and able to start enjoying the summer. Wishin I was at the Fort! Will throw back a cold one (or three) in honor of those who are at the Fort now.
