All moved in! Advise for future CPers DON'T LAMINATE SS CARDS!

Arrived at Vista Way @ 6:30 and there were at least 25 kids there already. DS went his way and I went another to wait. We were given lots of things to read and thanks to technology DS kept me posted as to what he was doing via texting. He was bused to casting and bused back to Vista Way. We were moving him into Chatham by noon (I think). We ran to Walmart, back to the complex & he went to his housing meeting.
One glitch - I laminated his SS card years ago. This is not accepted. If you have a laminated anything I suggest you get another to bring with you.
Chatham is nice. He is in a 3 bedroom. There is a common living/dining/kitchen area. DS especially wanted this set up because the three bedroom has a bathroom for each bedroom. I was not happy with how clean the room was. It looked like they spraypainted without cleaning any-thing!
DS is at DHS working in the parking lot. He's not sure exactly what he will be doing. To the SS office today (via bus from Vista) then he has the rest of the day to himself. Traditions tomorrow, studio tour tomorrow and he starts work Friday.
It was a long day but all in all it went well. Good luck to all the newest Castmembers!

Hi Anita.... it was great meeting you yesterday.... we got Maggie all moved in as well... and I have to agree with you about the apartments... not very clean... we went out and purchased all kinds of cleaning supplies and scrubbed that bathroom.... Maggie is in a two bedroom... both bedrooms have a bathroom... although one bedroom has a huge closet and the other not so much... Maggie and Julie got the small closet... but they have a tv and cars so they figured it all worked out....lol... Maggie has today off and starts Traditions tomorrow... then has off Thursday and starts work on Friday... she is pretty excited to be workng at AK.... hope all goes well with Tony!!

Thank you for sharing your childrens' experiences on here, it helps me know what to expect in..6 days! I've been reading everything I can, it's kind of sad really, that at 1 am I'm checking out blog after blog, but I like to think of it as..excitement manifested in the only way it can be..because everyone is probably tired of me talking about it hehehe.
Gross about the apartments! They check for inspections, yet when it's time for new people to move in, it's gross? Makes no sense.

The not clean must be a recurring theme. My daughter did the CP three years ago and she stayed for the second semester. She had to move and was told it was so they could clean her apt before new kids came in...really irritating but whatever...so we left her really clean apt and moved her to a new one and it was beyond disgusting. One room had shredded paper piled up in it all over, the living room had all sorts of uneaten food on plates. It was really bad.

I am the farthest thing from a neat freak, clean freak etc but we took care to make sure we left her apt in great condition and the one she moved to was terrible.

I forgot my card and had to go to the ss place too, but today I got a call saying I couldn't go to traditions because my fingerprints didn't clear, my dad says he thinks it's because I had to get a new ss card. So now I'm bummed and have to wait until they clear to attend traditions. Does anyone know any other reasons my fingerprints wouldn't clear? I've never been arrested either by the way.

Sometimes the fingerprints don't work. I had to go back to get mine redone. (I had a heartattack when they called and said there was a problem). There was a problem with the machine I had done it on the first time, and so it was a simple thing to get fixed. Hopefully it'll be fast and easy for you!

my roommates' boyfriend had to have his traditions time changed, he was the morning but ended up in the afternoon because his prints hadn't come back yet

My son was able to get to Traditions this am. Went to SS yesterday. I'm sure it had something to do with the finger print thing

ugh, I just realized today I forgot my card and check-in is tommorow. I live in NY so there's no way of getting it. They won't accept a faxed/printed copy of it, if someone emails it to me and I print it out?

What do you guys mean by going to SS? is this the social security office IN florida? I went to the ss website (ssa.gov) and it says that an employer can verify your records if you use the social security verification system. Is that what you ladies meant by going to ss? Please let me know ASAP

Hey Mooqtie215- good luck with your SS card issuse! I hope they let you in still! I also check in tomorrow too, i'm spending the night over at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, since there was no flight that matches the time range for tomorrow.

hahah thanks. I'm at the Sunspree as well ! I'm kinda like, ooh, I wonder who else is here, but then I'd feel like a creeper just walking around asking, are YOU in the college program..to strangers. not that I dont talk to strangers haha. and I havent left my room...so.

ugh Im like still freaking out though..I'm so dumb. But I'm kind of excusing myself, because..I was packing for four months, and um..I've never needed to pack for that amount of time..so it was a lot for me to remember. What I'm scared will happen is Disney says "YOU CANNOT WORK HERE" and make me wait until September 6th to move in. all in a scary nightmare-ish dream sequence. plus, i dont want to go to the SS office and get a new card when I have a perfectly fine one..at home. i have the number, shouldnt that be enough? and the site says I can't even have a printed copy of my birth certificate..it has to be official, state issued with a seal. so i cant even do that.

Oh yea. Are u checking out before u leave for checkin? Or r u gonna check out after? Because i heard checkout is 11a.m. but other are saying that casting is anywhere between 2-4 hours. I don't know if I should just checkout in the morning and walk down to checkin with all my luggage, or leave it here and and checkout when i get back to the vista apartment from casting, hoping i can get back by 10:45a.m. I dont know what to do because I don't have no car, and no other transportation.

What time were either of you planning on heading over there? I was gunna just go at 9. I know how everyones all like get there early, but I'm such a non morning person, and I don't have a matched roomie..nor a big preference to where I live (though I'd most want chatham i think)..so I;m not like, "Oh I better get there with Becky,Joanie and, Teresa so we can get a two bedroom in patterson or i'll DIE!" haha. OP, I just wanted to recommend that you or your son stock up on sunblock and a good pair of Disney look-appropriate sunglasses (no mirror, all black, can see eyes through them). He's going to need it. One of my roommates on my first CP worked parking at Epcot and she was ALWAYS sunburnt because of the sun reflecting off the concrete the first few weeks, because she didn't have any sunblock. Once she got sunblock, she was fine.
