We were at the Fort over Memorial Day weekend and when we checked in, we were not asked if we had any pets. They have always asked us that question in the past. They also had a "no pets in tents" rule, yet we met people from Tampa that were staying in tents in 2000, had 2 dogs with them, were not asked about the dogs at check-in, and were not charged extra for the dogs.

So.... does anyone know if the Fort is totally pet friendly now?

We were there a few weeks ago and weren't asked about pets. Wanting to do things the right way, I asked the CM, are pets allowed in the 600 loop? Wherby the CM said, yes, that'll be $5 a day, what!!! I also was asked to sign some pet related form. What is the $5 a day for? Except for the poop bags, which were in the loops we visited, I don't see why any campground charges for having a 10 lb dog.

We've been RV'ing for 38 years (with a dog for 18 of those years)and unfortunately the "inconsiderate few" have ruined it for those who respect their neighbors and the campground. All too often CG owners and managers have complained about having to "clean up" behind some pet owner who was too lazy to do it themselves.

I guess, but it still irks me. And people who don't pick up after their dogs irks me even more. What are they thinking?

Last Friday we were asked if we had pets at check-in. I saw the container for poop bags hanging in our 1800 loop. I'm sure people had pets with them but I only heard one bark the entire trip.

In answer to Denise's question - no, no poop bags on every loop. Yet - when we were looping, we saw dogs on every loop - even 100, 200, 1500 & 2000. Perhaps they've taken a "don't ask, don't tell" position at check-in? :confused3

Personally - I love to see doggies enjoying the Fort. Heck - our cats love to keep a watchful eye on our loop from the dash of the MH. I don't have any problems seeing an owner walking it's dog along any of the sidewalks, and I love to see dogs romping in the doggie park.

In all the time we've spent at the Fort, I only had an issue with one dog owner not picking up after their pups. This was a daily issue when we wintered in the 1700 loop in 2002/03. After I saw her ignore her doggie's duty for the third time, I went out and confronted her. I handed her a bag (which was about 10 feet from her) and told her I knew which site she was staying in. I advised her the next time I saw her neglect to pick up after her dogs, I would gladly do so and place the pooh where she would be certain to find it (can you say - ewwww?). I never saw any messes from her dogs after that.

I can tell you this, as of theend of 2009 all loops but 100,200,1500 & 2000 and the cabins are considered pet loops.

That's what I thought - but this past weekend I saw dogs on all loops - except the cabins. :confused3
