All DVC owners need to contact member services to complain about the NBA

Umm did I say something to you directly to offend you? If I did I am sorry. Usually you only see the you can sell anytime you like statement when you’ve really offended somebody.

Nope. Not offended. I am just pointing out that you have an option if you do not like the way the landlord is treating you, because you seem to be feeling that although Disney is within their legal rights (and they are), that you have a serious problem with them. That's fine. You can have a problem with the way the landlord treats you. That is your prerogative,. And you have a legal recourse in such a situation. You can legally move out. No one will think any less of your for it.

Personally, I know Disney and DVC is not for everyone. I have a friend who can easily afford DVC and loves Disney, but he's a penny pincer. DVC is not for him, clearly. It sounds like it may not be for you either, and that's okay.

As for me personally, putting their legal rights aside, I am proud of Disney for coming up with a solution for allowing the NBA to finish their season - and this comes from someone who in general hates sports of all types and flavors. It's a pandemic. IN a world of shutdowns, closings, limited options for entertainment, etc. Disney has come up with a number of ways to change with the times - from the family sing-a-longs which were brilliant IMHO - to hosting the NBA in a quarantined zone where they can still play but not risk the population.

If that means that I have to lend them a few cubit square feet of land for a few months - land that honestly I am not going to miss anyway - land that is shared property and their land in the first place - and Disney is going to pay for it - I have ZERO problem with this. in fact, I have less than zero problem., I think it's a brilliant idea, and I salute them for it. I hope they come up with more such ideas. I want the company to continue to innovate in a changing world, look for out of the box solutions, be successful and protect my investment in them. You see, I want there to be a Disney to come back to. Otherwise, my investment is worth less than a penny. It's junk. And besides that, I would be very sad in a world without Disney.

So I hear your analogy - and it's fair one from your perspective. But if you feel the landlord is not fair and is screwing you over, but is carefully staying within the law, then vote with your pocket. That's all I am saying to you. I will vote with my pocket, and I vote in support until they cross the legal line.

Personally we did decide to sell recently. Tired of being disappointed. Had 650 points 18 months ago. Will have 325 here soon...after closing on the sale of our 125 HHI points. Will keep the 325 and do 1 trip every 12-18 months. No more APs and no more 3-4 trips a year (also forget about our one time plan to winter at WDW....stay Jan and Feb).

If they are closing off areas for NBA then I hope those who own BCV and VGF get a drop in their dues payment in January. I think we all should get a 3 month discount as well. But instead the dues will still increase from this past January. Why we chose to sell the HHI....dues have just gotten ridiculous. Can book an oceanfront resort (not Disney) for less than our crazy annual dues. We just booked a 2BR rental in Shelter Cove for $1400 where as the DVC points for the same week amounted to $3200 in dues. Absurd! Heck would I be ticked if they closed off part of the HHI resort for some cash paying event (like the beach house for a wedding or something)....and still had me pay those crazy high dues.

I do get it...I think this is such a unique situation that much of what always happens..Disney moving cash guests to DVC...is more out there and makes us think about things!
I am more upset that they are packing Kidani full up, with no real QS. The pool bar only has four entrees and limited hours. And with no firm date on when Jambo resort side will open, it could go on for a while.

I suspect the players will spend more time on the golf course than in the pool during their down time

As an aside, Disney reported a 58% drop in income from its parks and cruises last quarter.
Their dividend, which was supposed to be paid out this month, is suspended
The NBA is paying Disney over $150 million in order to resume their season, and I am certain a number of folks were re-called from their furlough to support the NBA

I wonder how that will impact guests who want to golf since it is a good social distancing activity.

And how many signature restaurants like Narcossi’s will be blocked from guests use?

The players are not being permitted to gold.

There are a lot of restaurants closed now not for the NBA or MLS but because they are indoors and removing tables is a financial thing. The NBA is getting buffet service at their hotels, with a room service menu for those who miss meals.

Not coincidentally, every hotel the NBA and MLS are at are typically Disney conference hotels. The food is being done by catering. Not wildly different from when dentists or Gartner come in.

Yes..it would see, they would have increased options at Kidani with Mara closed.

Maybe it will change after parks open and more guests are there?

According to the 113 page rule book, they can -- without caddies

I forgot about this. Serious question as I do own at BWV do we get to use SAB when luna is closed for maint?

yes. We’ve been at Bwv while Luna was refurb. They shuttled us to SAB. I didn’t bother, because I am not a fan if SAB and was happy at the dvc quiet pool.

let’s not forget one of the biggest reasons this is a financial win for Disney... ESPN will have something to air other than sports legends playing Starcraft 2.

not that I don’t enjoy a good game of Starcraft mind you...

I'm a VGF owner and the fence just doesn't bother me since we're in the middle of a pandemic and it's not like it's something they usually do under normal circumstances. I don't think SAB use has been confirmed, and there was just an article posted about practice courts being constructed for the NBA so it doesn't seem like they'll be using resort courts. With everything going on, I just can't bring myself to be bothered about the NBA at WDW especially when some of it is just rumors. I agree with others that if it does bother someone, they're welcome to spend the time to contact Disney, but it's not something I'm going to be doing.

I understand that it does not bother you now. But would it bother you ion 3 years if you had a reservation at the bcv and at the last minute they shut down SAB so Google could use it for a week?

😆 While Google does have great benefits and some swanky events, I really don't see them taking over SAB for a week. It's way too far from HQ or other offices to make much sense, and a week is too long anyway, plus something like that wouldn't be last minute.

because they are using and blocking other people from using amenities normally paid in part by DVC members of those two resorts. (BC and GF) at least this is what people are hypothesizing will happen. I also think some people are upset because of the fencing going up is ugly, tacky, and ruins the ambiance of the resort.
Again .... “hypothesizing” - Nobody has been blocked from anything. just trying to point out the hysteria at this point simply isn’t true

I've also seen stuff about them getting designated outdoor basketball courts like at the contemporary. So if you're staying at Bay Lake tower you will not have access to the sports court which you normally would... If this is true. people who own at Bay Lake tower pay for the upkeep of that basketball court and should not be blocked out of it

they are not staying at BLT ...

Yes, but as teams get knocked out of the tournament, they will combine them all to Grand destino.....by end of August they should be out of GF and YC...hence the August 24th reopening date of YC.

Have you seen the schedule? The first round of playoffs is still going on then. And Disney will need time to clean/sanitize the rooms and reset them (remove microwaves, replace the beds, etc).

Bottom line, its extremely poor taste to cater to the billionaires as opposed to the average joes. At the end of the day its the DVC guests and regular guests who keep Disney afloat long term, so to stick their nose up at them is very corporate elitist.

Disney has been going down this pathway for at least the past decade, probably longer, they just dont really try to hide it as much these days. Eventually, it will sink them... you can laugh at this comment, but literally all companies eventually go under.

If I pay extreme prices to be at a Disney resort, I expect things are relatively normal, barring emergency construction. If there is going to be construction or unepxected inconveniences like this, I should be offered a refund or moved free of charge. Why? Because I am a paying customer.

Disney is catering to themselves.

NBA and MLS are critical to ESPN's earnings. In total, the media + guaranteed income at the resorts and for catering is a lot more important than an individual guest's happiness right now for shareholders.
