Today is the day of our much awaited trip down to Vero Beach. Didnt rush breakfast as we knew we couldnt check in until 4. Used both cars as we had Davids equipment also to take with us. Everything fitted in nicely and off we headed. I decided to be the navigator today as Hubbys sense of direction doesnt seem to be improving. Drive down to Vero Beach was fine, roads not to busy and we arrived around 3. Resort looked lovely and the foyer was just out of this World and you could even see right out to the ocean. Our room was ready so we headed over to unload all the stuff.
Room had one of the corner windows and balcony overlooking the sea which was nice and that was the high point. The roll in shower which we need for David was in the Studio side where my Parents were to sleep so we tried to work out a solution. The Master bedroom bed wouldnt allow the hoist to go under so that was out, next thought was we will do what we did at Saratoga and use the Sofa bed for David as by this time we realised the hoist wouldnt go under the studio part bed either. Pulled out the bed and yip the hoist would go under but the sofabed but had had no life left in it dipped in the middle and the springy bit was half way between the top of the bed and the floor. David was starting to get upset as he doesnt like things to go wrong because of him so his Dad and I decided to go for a stroll and early dinner. I also had to phone housekeeping as the blankets were dirty, there was still food in the fridge and on the floor from the previous occupants and we had asked for extra pillows which we need for David to relieve his pressure areas and they were unsure if they had any. We only asked for 7, goodness, even here in the UK its never been a problem. Also thought the inside of the rooms looked tired, outside was lovely though.
Had a lovely meal in Shutters, the men had fish, I had pasta and my Mum had enough chicken for an army. We then headed upstairs for coffees and the men some beer. After that we headed back to the room to decide the best course of action. Without going into to much details re David we managed and prayed all night he didnt and wouldnt fall out the sofa bed, got him up early the next morning and headed back to Shutters for breakfast. We usually eat in the Villa so this was a nice treat. Pancakes and fruit all round.
We then thought we would sit a while at the pool but it was like being back in Spain where all the seats and chairs were taken and covered with towels although nobody on them so we decided to head down to the beach and hire one of the umbrellas. David got marooned in the sand and was such a laugh even the onset of black l clouds and rain couldnt make us move any quicker he was stuck so we sat it out until the rain stopped and pulled him out. Good laugh.
We then headed back up to our room and looked around us and thought we couldnt spend another night here so we decided to cut our losses and head back up to Saratoga early. Went over to reception and checked out, explained to them why etc. All in all for $943 it wasnt worth it. Had we not have had David things might have been better, the rooms would still have looked tired though and at the end of the day there was still the last occupants food left but for the money I thought we had been short-changed. At the end of the day we do have David hence this will have been our one and only trip to Vero Beach which is a huge disappointment.
Headed back up to Saratoga and arrived back around 18.00. Decided to stay on resort and headed over to The Turf Club for a meal. Now I have read quite a few negative reports about the restaurant and for us they were unfounded. The place, meal and the service was lovely and you ate with a view out onto the Lake where the ferryboats leave for DTD. Lovely meal, definitely a thumps up.
Walked back to Congress Park which is about 10-15 mins to unpack. felt quite deflated as it was a disappointing and wasted 2 days
