Alaska Port Adventures Questions (particularly Skagway)

Hi All! We are sailing Alaska on May 22. We absolutely want to do the dog sledding/glacier excursion whether it's on Skagway or Juneau. I'd also like to do White Pass Railway. I do have a few questions.

1) What's the best way to ensure you get to do the dog sledding? I was able to book Juneau through Disney (Skagway it will not let me book 2ppl), but I've always heard both Skagway/Juneau are often cancelled. So I am thinking I should book Skagway directly with Temsco and release the Juneau booking, and if Skagway has bad weather day of, see if they can move us to Juneau.

2) If the weather is bad in Skagway, will they just push your excursion time to when the weather clears or is it generally cancelled as others are booked for the afternoon? I ask because I would like to do the White Pass Railway in the afternoon,but if our Dog Sledding got pushed from 7:15AM to , 9-10am, we wouldn't be able to do both and would lose the $ for White Pass.

The thing you have to realize about Alaska Excursions is that the weather affects excursions a lot more that say Caribbean cruises. When we went on our Alaska cruise, one of the big parts is that we couldn't wait to do the dog sledding, this was in Juneau. The day of the excursion, as we're about to leave the stateroom and go down to the Lounge where we were supposed to meet, we got a phone call that our excursion had been canceled due to low hanging clouds. While we did not get to do dog sledding, DCL port adventures said they would change us to a different glacier hiking excursion if we wanted them to, which we did. We did the White Pass Railway in Skagway which was fantastic. Amazing views and a nice break, before walking around the town until we had to be back on board. I would stick with your dog sledding in Juneau and if it gets canceled, don't let it ruin your trip, they'll most likely re-book you on something similar to the best of their abilities.
