All of the advice I've found emphasizes layers layers layers. Also that we should be prepared for rain. So we have reasonabily light-weight jackets (easy to pack) that are water repellant and have zip-out linings and hoods. Then we plan to layer long-sleeved t-shirts and sweatshirts under that. I think this will probably work and will be much easier to pack than a heavy winter coat.

We are from Minnesota, so we have plenty of cold weather gear. I like the idea of layering. I bought my daughters rain coats from Gap. I am just wondering how cold if will be if we take a helicopter to the glacier to spend the day at the sled dog camp?

Good question. We're doing that same excursion - that should be the coldest of the bunch I would think.

Hi All,
I've been enjoying reading everyone's conversations, and I must say I feel rather behind in my cruise planning! My thanks to all for the great information to get me started though, especially to my bff Meskamooska, whose enthusiasm for anything Disney I thought unparalleled, ... until seeing this thread!

So, today I took the first step since putting down the deposit last year, and reserved a parking spot at Cruisepark, an off-site parking garage that has a shuttle to and from the port. It's $120 for the week. We're going to arrive in Vancouver the 17th after 2 weeks of driving around Canada. Now I need to find a modestly priced hotel with a coin laundry...

Disney4bb it is about time you showed up here. Now you can hear all the great suggestions straight from the horses mouth instead of the other end

I just got my Juneau visitors guide in the mail (go to the Juneau visitors website and register it is free) and it is full of all sorts of great info from locations of the nearest banks and ATM's (Wells Fargo is the only large bank option FYI) to info on excursions.

On another topic, I am excited about having found out a couple of days ago that I won a writing competition. I am thinking that the prize money may go toward cruise goodies.

I am also thinking that I might need to make some more FE gal goodies. I started working on things around a year ago but I tend to think more is better and I would hate to run short.

Oh and speaking of FE's, the youngest member of our group will be celebrating her 8th birthday on 7/20, her name is Emily and she is into purple and princesses (shocking huh?).

I hope everyone had a great weekend and that you all have a terrific three day weekend.

Ok folks...saw the mention of FE work and thought to myself I'd be Goofy not to get my act together on that!

What is the current count and breakdown? Is our number getting so large that we need to be thinking one per stateroom per day? I'm all about the fun, but I'm also thinking about physical volume of FE stuff...

Our DS will be taking credit for his 9th birthday (7/1) a couple weeks belatedly.

Also --- who made the "Good tan is hard to find" logo and any chance a larger version couls be passed around? I'm thinking it's a must include somewhere on our door magnet design.

We've had a change of plans for the night before the cruise. Instead of staying in Vancouver, we're going to spend 2 nights in Whistler, and drive to Vancouver the morning of the 19th. It's a two-hour drive, but since boarding doesn't start until 1, we should make it, right?

Although the hotels aren't any cheaper, we wanted to see Whistler anyway, and our hotel suite has a washer/dryer in the kitchenette! Anyone else going to be in Whistler?

Yes we are....we are spending the 14th 15th and 16th in Whistler...the 13th 17th and 18th in Vancouver. We are in the Pan Pacific in both places. In Whistler we are at the PP Centre....not the mountain side.


If you drive back early enough you should be fine. As long as you dont run into any car trouble. When are you flying in?

We're also spending a night in Whistler (actually, 2 in Seattle, 1 in Whistler and 1 in Vancouver) before the cruise. I had thought of driving down from Whistler the day of, but I feel more comfortable driving down the day before and staying in Vancouver the night before the cruise. I think we're going to park the car at the airport to save a few $, so I want plenty of time on cruise day to work all that out.

DW has convinced me we should do sled dog on glacier...despite my dislike for helos (they don't fly -- the earth rejects them).

Anybody compared the Skagway vs. Juneau sled dog excursions? Looks like one is twice as long as the other (at 699 per person)...vs. 549 per. Just wondering if I should keep the $600 difference to use on another excursion...

Any thoughts?

I looked at both of them once before but will have to go back and look again. Either way to much $$$ for the 4 of us to go. If it was just me and DH we would have done it, but to spend almost $3000 for a few hrs made my face curl up

I would say look at what interests you to do in the other ports...I have like 5 things in each port that I want to do....find out if there is something in Skagway that you just have to do....than do the sledding in Juneau....if there is something you just have to do in Juneau, than do the sledding in Skagway.

I am having the hardet time trying to secide on what to do anywhere....I hate that we have no times down because if we did it would make a huge difference on my decision. If something we want to do starts at 8am...well than forget it....

would like 2 try to do a couple of things if possable at the ports because some are only 2 -3 hrs long....but what time?

There are 2 different Gold panning excursions...one seems more for older folks and the one with the Disney characters seems more for younger ones. But that is the one that sounds like the most fun. But my boys are 17 and 14 and worried that maybe there will be to many little ones and not so many older ones. But the other one sounds more boring.

So many choices....but I m getting closer
