ALASKA - August 30th, 2011 - Mickeys Mooseketeers & the last Alaskan Cruisade! New Th

I have not seen any reviews of the Jeep or Hummer excursions. :drive:

Has anyone heard anything or done that before ?

Beginning to lay out clothing to see what else we may need, here in Minnesota we get weather that is similar so we should have everything. :laundy:

Try posting here about your excursion. They are slowly getting posted. There is one today about the snorkeling one--I know someone here was interested in that one:goodvibes

Or maybe do a search on Cruise Critic for it. There's lots of information over there:)

Welcome home!!!
SOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..........how was the Dream???????

In a word...DREAMY! 3 days was not nearly enough time to explore everything we wanted to do. Even though the ship was awesome, the crowds and lack of crowd control was frustrating at times. Best way to compare to classic ships is that it's simlar to going to WDW during peak season vs off season. The Aqua Duck is wicked cool (in DDs words) as is Oceaneer's Club, but she still didn't want to go by herself. We splurged on a cabana on Castaway...WOW! Still don't think it's worth the cost but it was SO nice!

Well my small get together for my Mom's birthday has turned into about 24 people. Good thing I loaded up at both Sams and Costco.:rotfl2: It's bautiful here today, so it will be nice to be able to use the deck. Alan is parking cars at one of the stores today for a car show (gotta love vacation $$) He said he has been crazy busy. So I have some house straightening to do--not too much, it's way easier to clean when they are gone than before they get here:)

I had a disser pm me about our cruise. He is also from Louisville. I told him to join our thread, but haven't heard back from him. It sure would be nice to have a cruising friend here, all mine are spread out across the country and my family just doesn't "get it":confused3.

Well have a great day:flower3:

We've only done 1 3 nighter and I swore that was our last. I agree not ENOUGH time!! We are looking at a cabana for our June Fantasy cruise. Hoping to get 2 since there are 6 or 7 couples and I hate to be all crowded and it makes it much easier on the wallet to split the cost up. I have a couple friends that are going that are conceirge I REALLY need to find out from them IF they plan on booking one if not I am going to have them get them and just give them the cash on the ship--so I am crossing my fingers that they aren't:rotfl: There are at least 100 dissers on that cruise that I know from our 2008 EBPC crossing--so there will be a ton of us online at midnight Plat night and gold night. Lorri already put our request in for the private dining in Palo so that takes a huge load off booking our dinner & brunch:woohoo:

Okay, I haven't posted in awhile, and have been swamped since getting back from the MV of the Alaska Cruise on May 3rd. But here are my thoughts on my excursions and stuff:

1. Thank goodness we will be able to go up the Inside Passage on the way out of Vancouver. I did not do well on the Pacific the first night of the cruise!

2. Tracy Arm-was incredible. Get up early, wear layered clothing and don't spend the whole day looking through your lens in your camera. You will miss the beauty of it all.

3. Great BBQ on deck at the adult pool and on the AFT of deck 9 all day during Tracy Arm.

4. Skagway-We were the first and only ship into Skagway for the season. Lots of stores still setting up. Prices are very reasonable for souvenir type items.

5. Skagway Excursion-our group did the train and then got off at the top and rode bikes 14 miles back down. Even though it was snowing, sleeting and raining, it was a blast. It was so miserable, it was a blast! The views were breathtaking. When we rode the bikes back into town, we were able to shop as we made our way back to the ship. There is a post office in Skagway that many people were shipping stuff home at because they had bought so much stuff already! (We actually got on at Long Beach and were on the ship for 13 nights!).

6. Juneau Excursion-we did the Ziplining with s'mores and then to Mendenhall Glacier. The Ziplining was so much fun and the owners and staff were fun and took pictures of our group of 6 of us the whole time. Purchased a CD of pictures at the end and they showed us a slide show of all the pics before we bought them. We roasted marshmallows outside over a pit bbq and made our s'mores. Then went to Mendenhall Glacier. Stayed 45 minutes there. The glacier is 1 mile from the drop off point, so if you wanted to go to the waterfall and get up close and personal you had to hurry. If not, you could just stay close to the visitors center and explore through binoculars.

7. Once back in Juneau, we shopped and one of our friends took the tramway to the top. He said the views were incredible. Saw lots of eagles in Juneau.

8. Ketchikan-I went shopping in town and relaxed the whole day. My friends went to the lumberjack show with their kids for the "exclusive" 4:45 Disney show, however, people were just walking up to the place and telling them they were on the Disney ship when they weren't and they let them buy tickets. So it ended up not just being everyone from Disney. They enjoyed the show. Right next to the show (it's right downtown) is this fish and chip place and I had halibut that was really, really, good. And then there is a shopping place right next to that with good prices on souvenirs. There is also a free shuttle from the ship to Walmart, just in case you are dying to visit the local Walmart. There was also the Duck Boat that pulled up right to the ship and backed in and you could buy duck tours (the vehicle drives on land and then goes on water) and lots of guests were doing that and seemed to enjoy it.

9. Galley Tours were NOT available-they are redoing the floor in the galley in sections and said it would take most of the summer, and weren't sure whether they would be available by Aug. 30th cruise.

10. Lots of tours still had room once we were on the ship. Booking them did not seem to be a problem.

11. Bring layered clothing. Also, we did not have any bugs, but I hear as the summer goes on, bugs get worse, so bring bug spray.

12. We saw plenty of whales. I am sure there will be more as the season goes on.

If anyone has questions, just go ahead and post. I will be happy to try and answer and will check back regularly now. Although, I am still unpacking all my FE gifts and paper stuff from the May cruise and trying to get it organized.

Alaska was absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to see it again.

Thanks Linda! I'll have to read all that again this evening, I am making myself close this laptop. Have a great day:goodvibes

Ok we are now on the thread. Thanks Paula for your help. We pulled the plug Friday night on Hotwire and got Pan Pacific for 133.00 for the 29th:cool1: We also ordered the entertainment book and we will book the bus from Seattle.

This will be our 5th DCL and needless to say most of our friends don't "get it" either.

I am 51 and DW is 50. Her name is Sheri. We will be in 6634. We are also booked on a MR in Oct 2012 and we have the same room. We have friends that will be cruising this time that are also from Louisville. Their names are Steve and Diane. They are a cat 6 gty. This will be their 2nd dcl. I am subbing this thread and will be looking forward to meeting folks on our cruise

This was our first 3 night cruise as it was a last minute decision but agree never again as it was just too short and we felt really rushed trying to squeeze everything in.

Hi, Rick, welcome. My DH Eric and I will both be 51 by the time of the cruise. We are in cabin 6628, so just a few doors down from you.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you.

Welcome to the thread Rick! Looking forward to getting to know you before and while we cruise. I added you to the roster. If you'd like to participate in the Fish Extender let me know and I'll add that info.
Glad to hear you were able to get the Pan Pacific, and the quick shuttle coupon is great:)

Linda, lots of good information!!!! Thank you:) I hope they get the galley floors finished in time for our cruise, I was looking forward to doing that when we did it in January the chef that took us around didn't talk very loud so I missed half of what he was saying.

I printed the off coupon good for the clip on. I thought it would come in handy while we are at Taku Lodge, all the reviews I have read about that mentioned mosquitos. OFF COUPON

I just finished the other day getting all my January Panama Canal cruise stuff put away, you've only been home a couple weeks:worship:

Hey any of you that have the Entertainment Book and booked Pan Pacific through Hotwire. There is a coupon in the EB good for a $20 rebate, you need to print a copy of your Hotwire Confirmation, print a rebate form that is online from the Entertainment site and attach to the coupon that is in the book and mail it in:) (Now I wish I would have booked my 3 rooms seperately:sad2:)

*This is good for any HOT DEAL you have booked through Hotwire, not just the Pan Pacific.

***There is also $15 that is good for any hotel that you have booked.

Thanks for the info. Is the rebate on line part of Entertainment Book? Just wondering if I buy a book for somewhere other than Vancouver if I can still print the coupon off.

Tracy there is one in my Louisville book also, so I would think they would be in all of them. :) I could probably gather quite a few of them up, I know a lot of my family members have the book and it is just a 1 use offer because you have to mail the coupon from the book with it. This link is their current special buy 1 book for 19.99 and get a 2nd one free. ENTERTAINMENT BOOK If you want to pm your address to me, I can put a coupon in the mail to you:)

TODAYS VANCOUVER GROUPON This would be a fun way to spend a couple hours in Vancouver:)

This is also good for a 40% discount on their sunset dinner cruise, I sent them an email to ask for claification on what the price difference would be. I'll let you know:)

It is an additional 50.40 per person to add the sunset dinner cruise--so that is still pricey:( But a nice deal on the harbour cruise itself:)

Kimberly, sign up for the Groupon in Vancouver you'll get daily posts from them. I also get Living Social ones. Let me find the links.

I get them from both Louisville and Vancouver everyday. Sorry I forgot to post the HOHO bus here. If you do purchase any of the Canada deals it will put a small currency charge on your credit card. I think for my $90 HOHO it was about $3. Just the same as you had charged your card in a foreign country.

I'll post any more that are good:)

Thanks for the info, signed up today!!!

Hope so too! She loved the new clubs on the Dream but didn't want to go by herself. :(

Our daughter loved the clubs and it only took about 1 visit before she had friends she would tell us by name. The staff really worked on getting the girls to do things together.

We to did the DREAM on a last minute 3 day, only because a cabin opened up. It was way too short for that ship and we would only do it again if we backed it with a 4 day.
