We leave in a week (yippee!!) and I have a couple questions.

We can print our own boarding pass from home using web check-in.

Is there curbside check-in that we can use to check our luggage and completely bypass the front desk? And just go through airport screening and wait for our plane?

I can't find any other information online about it.

Every time we have flown out of PDX we have had actual tickets - this is my first time with e-tickets and I am a bit confused....

Thanks!!

It was December '07 since the family and I have flown Alaska out of PDX but this is what we (my wife did).

We parked in one of the "short term" lots and rode the shuttle in which takes you to the top-outer loop. We snagged a cart that someone had luckily left out there (otherwise I think they are @ $3).

Once we got inside we went to the Alaska Airlines counter and out front they had 6 machines that are like self service ATM looking machines. Usually they have someone out there that is shuffling people to the machines and helping them go through the process.

After the machine spits out your regular tickets the process is the same as if you had regular tickets....tag your bags....wait in a line to check in & weigh your bags (have your picture ID's ready to go).....then you take your bags to the x-ray check-in line behind the counter.

Then you are off to the terminal check in line.

Have fun!!!

The pp was pretty accurate. We did print out our boarding passes at home and then we parked in the economy lot, rode the shuttle to the terminal and used a porter at curbside to check our bags. If memory serves, he tagged them and took them to x-ray for us. We tipped him a couple of bucks. I think we did this because the check in line at the Alaska counter was huge and we didn't want to wait.

The machines to print out you:wizard: boarding passes are really easy to use, they even ask you how many bags you have, etc....

PDX is a pretty user friendly airport. We are flying out of there a week from tomorrow, (probably the same time you are) so maybe we will see you there.. We are doing PDX to LGB. We've never flown into LGB before (previously we flew into SNA and LAX).

We too are flying a week from tomorrow on this flight. We've never flown out of PDX before. Is it a big airport and do you really need 2 hours for check in? Thanks so much!

Oh and PDX to LGB is awesome IMO. LGB is small, mostly outside. The car rentals you can see across a small one way street from the bagage pic up. You disimbark the plane onto the tarmac. The cart for the bags is $4 at LGB if you need one.

PDX is a SMALL airport with only two concourses, you only need about an hour for check in security etc. I would get there 1 1/2 hours before your flight in case it comes in early, and of course they start boarding about 30min before the flight time.

We checked a bunch of bags at PDX just wait in line at the counter and hand her your eticket, if you haven't gotten an eticket you can use your printout confirmation of purchase or your cc# you used to purchase the tix with the full name of the purchaser at the kiosk(s) they are talking about.

To check bagage now, they give you tags and you take it behind you.. back near the front doors and pass it off to the handler(s), they will screen the checked bags, just leave them and go off through security. Keep in mind there are restaurants on both sides of security.. you can't take liquid through security so if you want to take bottled water onto the plane get it after you go through.

Both airports are small, LBG is smaller, PDX is one of the nicest airports I have ever been in, small and clean.

Okay, so we can print our boarding passes from home on Friday before we leave for the hotel. (The webpage said that you can print them up to 24 hours in advance)

So it should ask how many bags we have? As it is pretty similar to the machine inside the airport I am guessing.

And we are going to be shuttled from the hotel to the airport. So I am guessing that where they drop us off, we should be able to check the bags in from there, at the curbside check-in?

And from there we can proceed directly to security screening and our departure area??

I just want to make sure I have stuff at least somewhat figured out before next weekend.

Thanks!!

PDX doesn't generally do curbside checkin any longer....we did it back in jan 07 but I haven't seen it since. After you check your bag you will have to bring it over to the bomb x-ray machine. You can pre print at home...it is very easy! If they have the self check in machines up and running sometimes they have an agent there specifically waiting for people to bring their bags up...you will probably have a much shorter wait and they'll print out your luggage tags there, then bring it to the bomb scanner. Hope you have a good trip!!

Monday we fly Alaska Boise to PDX to SNA ! we are on the 7:55 out of Portland.

We leave a week from today on the 2:00 flight from PDX- gets in to LGB about 4:20. Anyone else on this flight?:wizard::flower3:

We leave out of PDX next Sunday the 29th. We don't normally do curb-side bag check - just use the self service Alaska kiosks and an employee will keep you with checked bags.

Next weekend (March 28/29) is the end of spring break week in Portland so I'd expect a little increase in travel (both people returning home and people flying back home).

I usually aim to be at the airport about 1.5 hours before my flight.

Have a great trip!:cheer2:

Were leaving from PDX to DL on 4/1. I think I mentioned this before but, I have 2 extra "toontown MM" tickets if interested.

Mom2ian, what time is your flight? We are on the 2:00 pm flight on the 29th. Maybe we will see you at the airport.

Splash, we're leaving on an early morning flight with the hopes of having lunch in Disneyland. Woo hoo! So, we'll miss you at the airport. Have a great trip!

Don't forget that Southwest Washington schools start Spring break this weekend!
