Alamo vs Dollar

I have had great service from Alamo the past 3 years and the not so great service from Dollar. I have a GREAT rate from Dollar for a minivan. 6 days $90 cheaper than the best pre-paid rate I can get with Alamo.

Do you think Alamo will match Dollar's rate? I'd rather use Alamo. Does anyone have experience with "rate-matching"?

Unfortunately, they do not rate match. Wish they did. In fact, no car rental company will rate match, exept L&M has been known to do it.
Good luck.

Dollar didn't have the minivan I requested twice. They tried to give me an SUV, but I needed a car for 7 people. After waiting about 1 hour (both times) a minivan appeared. I just don't like wasting time especially on vacation for unnecessary things. If they had a better track record with me, then I wouldn't fret about it. I hate to hold 2 ressies b/c I feel like I'm holding up another minivan family. I'll cancel the Dollar one. Thanks for the rate match input.

While they don't price match i would try going to mousavers and see what combinations of discounts you can find at Alamo using the codes she has over there. If you don't like the service you have received from dollar then my feeling is that you probably would be happier at Alamo and maybe the extra is the service you are receiving. I have used Alamo only on our trips. Never had a problem always had great service and while its costing me more to rent with them I feel like i'm paying for the known service and to me its worth it.

If your a member of Costco i know they have 25% off with Alamo and even a coupon for $25 off the rental but you have to be a member. I use that all the time. Before being a costco member I used the Walmart 20% off coupon and some of the coupons on Mousesavers.

Good Luck!

I tried many combinations, but I can't beat the kiss2 rate code from Dollar.

Alamo, here I come. Comfort level is worth $90.

Plus, I can pick my van from a line-up. There's a big difference between a Grand Caravan and a Caravan when it comes to luggage. Dollar gave us a Caravan after one of those 1 hour waits and the kids were sitting amidst the bags. thanks.

You'll probably get a Grand with the DVD player. If the van availability depletes, you also have the option of picking from the National line.

I know that Alamo and National were related, but I didn't know that they crossed vehicles. Thanks for the info.

Yep, they share the fleet. I have cracked up numerious times seeing the rate differences to get the EXACT same vehicle, often times you could be paying double for the same thing....

Actually it is a discount UP TO 25% off. In Orlando it is about 5-10%.

Have you had troubles with Dollar and not having enough cars also?

Ive used Dollar a few times throughout the country when they were alot cheaper then others. Dollar has never ran out of cars in my reserved class, nor do I ever notice a lack of vehicles like National/Alamo often have....
