Alamo Rates (How do you get them?)

Ok, I've been reading these threads for weeks on these fantastic rates people are getting for SUV'S or Minivans, Everyday I put in the same codes everyone else is using and I never get close to the rates that are being reported. Lowest I got was 280 for suv and 340 for minivan. Is there something I'm missing or is this truly just a crapshoot?

IMO it pretty much depends on your travel dates. I am travelling in early may for 11 days. I used wal-mart atlas codes I found on www.mousesavers.com. I inputted rate code BY and ID 430710 and got my 11 day suv rental for a grand total of $196. I think these codes are only good if pick-up of the car is before May 31st 2006. If your dates are after that then you will have to look for codes that are valid beyond that point. Codes for travel dates farther out may not be released yet. If they aren't...you'll have to wait and watch for them to come out on mousesavers.com. Hope this helps! Here's hoping for a low rate!!!

The dates are indeed crucial.
I booked an Uplander Minivan for a very low rate for March.
I also booked an Equinox SUV for August at rates that are less than Compact and Intermediate.

While I have a great rate on a mid size SUV and standard SUV, I'm not seeing such great rates as others with the mini van for our trip (Apr28-May6). So I think a lot has to do with your dates of travel. As you get closer -- hopefully things will open up and you'll have deeper discounts!

ETA: it also depends on the moment you are checking. My rates are definitely fluctuating. Last week, I dropped them by $10 -- this week, they are back up again. Keep trying!

It defintely depends on your dates, however my dates are June 25-July 10th and I have used the 430710 and BY codes to get a rate of $262 with a $25 coupon. So they def don't expire at the end of May, there may just be some blackout periods...also try using the costco code and coupon if you are a member they seem to be about the same great rates as the one I previously mentioned and they may work for your dates...Just go to costco.com and go to travel and car rentals and play with the codes...Good Luck and keep watching...I booked my rental about 2 months ago and it started out as $395 so it def changes a lot!!!
