Alamo question again...

I am renting a mini van for 2 wks for $440 in July. Can you tell me how much above the cost of the vehicle do they hold on your credit card?

I just e-mailed them about this the other day, seems like they don't hold anything more than the estimated amount and your just charged at the time of return. Here's the e-mail I got back from Alamo:


Thank you for your email.

If you are paying with a major credit (not a debit) card in the U.S. or Canada, Alamo does not place holds or charge deposits on top of what the estimated total cost of the rental will be; we will hold that amount only against your card, and when you return the vehicle your card will be charged at that time. If you are paying with a debit card, you must present a round-trip travel ticket (airline, cruise ship or train) at the time of pickup, and your card will be charged the estimated total cost of the rental at that time. The debit card must be U.S.-based and have the Visa or MasterCard logo on it; we do not charge or hold deposits on top of the estimated total cost of the rental if you are paying with a debit card, either.
